I have a Acer Aspire 5050, If I install the battery in a little while the laptop freezes up. As soon as I remove the battery it works fine. I installed a new battery and it has the same issue. This computer originally had Windows Vista. I installed Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3. I really don't like Vista. Any idea on how to solve my problem.

you need to try remove the battery pack then try to boot up but if you same the problem try to find the memory then make a clean of this or try to replace.good luck
try this,
1) press power button longer than usual, it should turn off
2) if above not happens remove batteries and refix them, now try to start, this should work fine
