My HP PL4260N powers on and we can hear the channels but the screen is black. Also noticed that when it is turned on that we don't see the HP logo. Is my 5yr old TV shot?

The buzzing is normal thing, because white screen requires most power and your chopper works at its max. The sound comes from inductance coils and transformer because of old isolation and glue which shouldnt make any problems.
This TV has a Power Standby feature (pg. 40 of your manual) which allows you to more quickly turn ON the TV. When power is lost and then restored, your TV will display the HP logo screen while it boots the digital circuits. After it is finished, (unless it was previously turned on) it should appear to be OFF. This is normal operation. If you like, you can change this setting to LOW POWER. At this setting, each time you turn on the TV, you will see the HP Logo screen and picture/sound will appear after 20 seconds. Again, take a look at pg. 40 of your owners manual for more information.
Mine has done this from day one, appears to be a resolution problem. All I do is go to a HD channel let it tune in and then go back the the SD channel and don't have to worry about it until next time the power has cycled.
The problem is the "Y-SUS" board. It is inside the set on the left side with several aluminum heat sinks, under the left side brace bar. You can order this board from Union Electronics at www.ued.com .Search for part number: TNPA3243AB-PA
I learned recently that, since I purchased mine with a VISA card, VISA automatically doubled my warranty to extend it to a second year. Hope this helps someone else.
