This model boombox is no longer reading disks in the cd player. What could I try to fix the problem?

The laser assembly is not reading the disc, as the laser ages it becomes weaker until it can no longer scan the disc and can not play, you have done everything that I would have recommended, at this stage it is far cheaper to replace the boombox than replace the laser pickup assembly.

Since the motor tries to start up, I don't think it's a motor problem. I think that the problem is at the lens; it can't read the cd so it does to stand by mode. I suggest you a cheap solution. Buy a cd/dvd cleaner set, a wet one is better. Follow the instructions on the set. The main idea is to put one drip of the included liquid at the set (usually isopropyl
alchohol) at a specific place (like small brush) on the disk surface and play this disk. That way the "brush" will clean up the laser lens and after that the cd/dvd player will be able to read the disks. BE CAREFULL not to put too much liquid on the "brush". In case you can, use a Q-tip with isopropylic alchool to clean up the cd lens manually.

buy a cleaning disk, or get a micro fiber cloth, and take the stereo apart and find the laser lens, near the motor that spins the cd, it will be pretty small, gently wipe it clean in one direction, if that doesnt work, the laser has quit working.

?: Does the cd spins? If it does the optical eye that reads the cd could be dirty. Clean the eye with cd lens cleaner. If the cd is not spinning the motor could be bad. Also some cd players can't read certain disks because of the density of the disk. Make sure you read the manual to see what cds are compatible with your boombox. I hope these solutions were helpful.

Before you go replacing your stereo, try cleaning your laser lens with rubbing alcohol and a qtip. let it dry for a few mins and try a music disc again.

Check that the disk is still spinning. If not then suspect the spindle motor

Insert Lens cleaning Disk, after cleaning the disk If the CD is reading change the lens.
