DFG-100 old model/ electronic ignitor, ignitor comes on normally and gas valvue will open just enough to light rails but will only produce a 1/4 inch or smaller flame. never does get up to temp. are there any test procedures manuals available for these units?

even if the ignitor glows it may not be getting hot enough to light the gas. if it does not get hot enough the gas valve should not open. try changing the ignitor, usually 30 - 60 dollars.
It should glow almost a bright white. If its just an orange glow then replace the ignitor. Its probably just weak. If its weak it will not allow enough current to flow through it to open the gas valve. Good luck _MJ_
I have seen this happen when a hole develops near where the ignitor is mounted. The excess gass overheats the ignitor and burns it up. What I do in a case like that is slide a c clamp over the burner and cover the hole.

Be sure that the igniter has a good ground. I mean make sure you clean it well. Be sure its fastened well. And of course that it is close enough to burner. Air flow in building can also hinder lighting.
