If you get a pic using a dvd or vcr player the problem isn't your tv. connections some hdmi cables can cause blank pic between the cable box and the tv you could try connecting different cables if using hmdi component red blue green for hd pic and seperate red/white cables for audio
He is probably not an expert (just kidding, of course he's not..) First, try connecting the Cablevision Box to another TV (if you don't have another HD TV, use the yellow/white/red Composite connection.) If there is still no picture, the box is no good. If there is, then try a different output from the Box or other inputs on the TV. Are you using HDMI (HD connection) out of your Box? Is the TV 720p or 1080p? Set the Box up (from the menu) according to the specs of your TV. Hope I helped.
