Kid put mom's curling iron in microwave. Turned it on and now nothing. No lights, nothing. Is there a fuse to check? Maybe it is too far gone? Thanks

There is very high voltage present even when disconnected from mains. unplug from mains & leave for 1 hour. remove cabinet. there is a fuse which controls everything usually located near the transformer or where the mains cable enters. check fuse and replace. it needs to be the correct fuse for the appliance
There should also be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

Once you remove the control panel assembly, the fuse is located in a holder behind that area toward the top. The tech sheet shows part locations

Have a whirlpool microwave model GH5184XPS-4. This morning I turned the "Cooktop Light" on and a few minutes later I heard a small pop, looked over and the lights had gone out. One of the bulbs...

yup most probably that is the case.

you can locate the fuse usually it is placed near the main power supply or just trace the supply cord going in your unit. but before you open your unit be sure it is unplug to avoid electric shock.

slowly disassemble the unit and be sure that you can replace all the screws back to it original positions. after locating the fuse, check if it has a continuity and be sure to replace the same fuse rating. also investigate why the fuse had blown up and look for abnormalities.

if nothing found then replace the fuse and put all back then test the unit. if still it blows fuse, their must be something wrong with the unit and have it service to qualified personnel.

Hamburger in foil wrap put in microwave - shorted unit out

Hi- The first thing here is safety. If the power supply is good- 120v at outlet- then address the fuse in the cabinet. Open door, remove screw(s) holding control panel, and tilt out panel. Fuse should be visible. Check for continuity. If bad, replace with 15amp appliance fuse. Plug in and check for operation. If fuse blows again, unplug and start looking at a new microwave. Let me know if this info helps. Have more if needed- Thanks- Ed
