Disk drive I have a sony vaio notebook. The disk drive door will only open using a paperclip into the alternate opening mechanism. When a disk is inserted into the drive, it does not automatically play. When I go to My Computer and select the drive, a message appears requesting a disk be placed in the drive. Can you help me? Thanks. Cleo [email protected] 772 971 3369

MY DVD DRIVE DOOR WILL NOT OPEN

look below the door and you should see a very small hole. insert a straight paperclip in to the hole and push. the door will open. you may have to grab it and pull. sometimes they do this because of dust and sometimes they are just worn out. may need to be replaced.

How to use a paper clip to open CD or DVD door

I have answered many questions about CD and DVD drives. One of the most common problems is "My CD door doesn't open"
This can be caused by several things but I am going to explain how to open the door manually.
To do this requires a small Paperclip. Straighten the paperclip. Find the small hole in the CD or DVD door. Gemtly insert the paperclip and push on the button inside. If the drive does not have a mechanical problem the door will open.

Inserted a DVD wrong way around (silver side facing towards us) now we can not ejecetd or play it.

Here are some options from best to worst and I recommend that you turn off the computer beforehand

Use a straightened paperclip and insert an end into the auto eject hole. (A little pinhole on the front of most disk drives)
Use a knife or flathead to pry the disk tray open.
If it doesn't have a tray you could use tweezers to pinch it out of there

I have pryed open disk trays before without issue

CD\DVD drive is stuck and will not open

Did you try the paper clip treatment?

There is usually a small pin hole somewhere on the front of such devices. Insert a straightened paperclip and release the internal catch.

I hope this works for you

Sony pcv-rx860 dvd drive will not open to remove cd-

Hi, if you look at the front of your cd drive you will see a little hole. This is an eject mechanism. If you insert a paperclip in this whole you should be able to manually push the drive open. Once it is open it may release what ever is causing the drive to jam.

I hope this helps.

Opening disk drive compartment

If you stll have this problem, then you might try a couple of things..

Firstly, a boot of the pc usually will allow the drive to be opened.. But I'm sure you have tried that.. So, there are a couple of other ways.. There is a small pin hole in the front of 'most' CD & DVD rom drives. This is used for emergency situations when the cd will not 'dismount'. Be careful here. Use a paper clip & insert it gently into the pin hole. Only use a light pressure & you should feel a small switch plate. Gently push it with the (extended) paper clip. It will switch the open button & should allow the drive to open. Thirdly, go to 'Start' (button), 'My Computer' highlight the CD rom drive (left mouse click) then right mouse select 'eject' from the menu options.. Actually, if you are still reading, do this first. If it fails, boot the pc & try it again, before using the paperclip method. good luck. Rgds,
