Dell PowerEdge 1800 Server Logo
Anonymous Posted on Jan 10, 2011

I have a blue vertical flashing light showing just above the Dell emblem. In the past there has been a solid light. I have checked on OpenManager which indicates all is well but I do not like unexplained changes on servers. Can anyone give me any guidance please? Thank you Ian

    Hi Ian,

I don't remember the exact layout of the poweredge lights as I've been working mostly with HP servers lately. Can you either snap a pic of the area around the blue light or describe the symbol below and beside so I can refresh my memory.

BTW, none of us like unexplained changes with our servers...

Hi. Thanks for your response. Unfortunately I cannot take a snap but my best description is that it is a vertical flashing light dead centre vertically, about an inch long just above the round Dell emblem at the top of the drilled holes in the Dell box and just below horizontally where the power switch is and the cd rom drive. I hope this helps

Great thanks,

That's just a system indicator flash. Solid blue means on and normal, blinking means someone either turned on the system indicator in the management software or bumped the indicator switch on the back of the server. This was designed to make easier transitions from back to front when working with multiple servers in a rack. To turn the indicator off, just go to the back of the server and find the Ethernet and usb ports that are together. If the usb is the bottom and Ethernet port is the top then just to the right you should see a small blue blinking light and a button, pushing the button wil turn the blinking off.

Again, no worries this is just a "locator beacon" not an error message, if the light ever blinks yellow then you have an issue.

Hope this helps FixYa,

Chris

Mine on a PowerEdge 840 will blink amber when the front panel is removed. Intrusion detection. When I am working on it I place a piece of tape on the front button and it turns blue and stops that stuff.

Flashing led's on battery pack

Charles,
The battery turns on steadily or blinks to indicate battery charge status.
If the computer is connected to an electrical outlet, the light operates as follows:
  • Solid blue - The battery is charging.
  • Flashing blue - The battery is almost fully charged.
If the computer is running on a battery, the light operates as follows:
  • Off - The battery is adequately charged, or the computer is turned off.
  • Flashing orange - The battery charge is low.
  • Solid orange - The battery charge is critically low
Thank You,

My dell inspirion 1525's screen is black numerical lock light is onblue, the cap lock blue light is flashing, the download lock light is on blue as well

Hi Friend, In this case if the caps lock is flashing blue and the other 2 LED's are solid blue, this is an indication that there is something wrong with the memory (RAM) itself.
So I would recommend you to please reseat the memory card of the system. I am also sending you the link that will assist you in reseating the memory
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ins1525/en/SM/memory.htm#wp1180987
Please reseat the memories. Please let me know if it is of any help.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 that won't start. The battery light would flash orange 4 times then blue once, and then start over with the same sequence. Pulled the power board and fixed the solder joints on...

This is directly from the User Manual:
If the computer is connected to an electrical outlet, the Battery light operates as follows:
• Solid green: The battery is charging.
• Flashing green: The battery is almost fully charged.
If the computer is running on a battery, the light operates as follows:
• Off: The battery is adequately charged (or the computer is turned off).
• Flashing orange: The battery charge is low.
• Solid orange: The battery charge is critically low.

Help with server boot problems flashing orange lights etc

Seems the RAID is broken. You may see which drive (hot swappable?) it showing an error code with its lights in front. If not, I would suggest re-seated all drives.
If you see one that is not right, remove it all the way, while it is on, then push it back in, it should try to rebuild the raid on the drive, if it still fails, you will need to replace the drive.

Not sure what RAID you are using or how many drives, so feel free to explain more.
