There are four possibilities:
1) If in a country that has a fused plug, the fuse in the plug (unlikely). 2) The switch (unlikely). 3) A break inside the cable that you cannot see (quite likely). 3) The motor is shot and needs replacing (very likely).

Dyson upright vacuum with kinked cord kept stopping. There was a loud bang and smoke and the vacuum stopped. Has the motor blown up, or can it be repaired?

This happens a lot the supply cable bending or damaged shorts out causing smoke and a bang if fitted with or backed up with a high amperage fuse .
check length of supply cable if you find damage/ burning smell,
either replace cable, or you could fit a inline rubber socket and plug by cutting out damaged part of cable and fitting female part of plug first into supply cable 1. then on the vacuum side of cable fit the male part of plug 2 . supply 1. -----o o----------2.--- vac
using insulation tape if you like you can tape plug and socket together to stop it pulling apart, normally cable damage will not damage the vacuum cleaner. and fit the correct fuse rating for the machine 1000 watts at 240v divide 240 into 1000 =4.166 amps
so with a 1000 w load you do not need a 13 a fuse fitted 6 amp fuse should be ok. or go online and see what is recommended re fuse size for appliance ,

How do I replace power cable

Hi Lala, it's Jack at Dyson.

If your Dyson DC40's cable has been damaged, we would recommend having this replaced by a qualified Dyson engineer - you can contact us directly to arrange this. Just to make you aware, attempting to repair your machine yourself could invalidate any remaining Dyson warranty coverage, meaning repairs or replacement parts in future could be chargeable.

I'd encourage you to get in touch with our experts to discuss your options. You can reach the Dyson Customer Helpline by calling 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

Dyson stopped working

There are three things that "stop" (no noise anymore) a DC07 working. I will list them in order of the most common to least common faults.

1) The motor is burnt out. Caused by over filling and not cleaning the filter regularly. You must replace the post motor filter when getting the motor replaced
2) The power cord has failed. This can usually be seen by visually inspecting the cord for damage.
3) The on/off switch has failed.

All of these faults should be repaired by a licensed sparky for safety reasons.

Dyson DC 25 Ball - no power to motor

Same problem here. We noticed a loss of suction for about 5 minutes and the suction stopped. Beater bar still rotates but ZERO suction.

My dyson dc14 suddenly stopped working while vacuuming. What should I do?

Check mains fuse, if OK, suspect mains cable broken where it enters the machine. Wriggle the cable with the machine switched on.
If it's done a lot of work, the motor brushes could be worn out.

For your new machine that does not power on - call the Dyson helpline - your power switch may need to be replaced. They'll set you up with a repair dealer who will fix it for you.

Rug beater does not work, vacuum does I just was vacuuming the rug and it suddenly stopped, beater will not turn on.

The beater bar will turn itself off if something became lodged in the brushbar area - it turns itself off so that it doesn't cause any further damage. If this is the case, recline the machine, turn it on and press the gray button next to the red power button. This is the brushbar's ON/OFF switch. If that doesn't solve the problem, call the Dyson helpline for further assistance.

Dyson DC04 not working

Have you trod on the cable at all, sometimes the cable breaks inside the sheathing, test by switching on and wiggling cable where it enters machine, if it starts then thats your problem, easy to fix, disassemble switch, cut off and discard 6 inches of cable then reattach the reamaining.
