The printhead is clogged, even after I soaked the head (not the tanks!) overnight in water. I put a new Canon brand cartridge in. I can get one page of nice black text, then the ink starts to run out.

I have successfully managed to clean the print head with isopropyl alcohol by placing a flexible plastic tube over the cartridge seat, filling the tube partially with the alcohol, then blowing very hard through the tube. The alcohol does not appear to harm anything.

I haven't used my canon pixma for a few weeks, came to use it again and the 3e black cartridge won't work, (tried printing from computer and copying) have done a clean, deep clean and nozzle check, even...

The black print head is clogged. The reason why the black is clogged and not the photo black or any colors is that the black is pigment ink and the photo black and colors are dye based ink. The pigment ink is a particulate formulation that binds up when water is evaporated out of the ink. You need to buy a new print head the fix the problem. You can buy a new print head for $75 from precision roller.com.

Will not print in black. will print in color. I

Sounds like a badly clogged nozzle. If you are using aftermarket/refilled cartridges, the changes are the ink is not up to manufacturer specs and has dried and clogged the nozzle. The best way to clear this is to take a new black ink OEM cartridge and run the deep cleaning a number of times (at least 3) to see if the nozzle can be cleared. If you continue to use non-OEM cartridges, I would keep a set of OEM cartridges around for nozzle clearing purposes. Also, take the aftermarket ink cartridges back to the vendor and either get an upgraded cartridge or refund.
Let me know if this corrects the problem. Thanks.

MAGENTA NOT PRINTING

The other week I had the black print head clog up, requiring daily nozzle deep cleaning [a normal 'ocassional' maintenance function]. Thought I needed a new Print head, so anything worth a try.
I loaded up an old black cartridge [I load all my own......always have] with Isopropyl Alcohol and ran deep clean on that cartridge a couple of times, then repeat printed [6 times] a page full of the number 8 in about half inch character size, to get the alcohol through the nozzles. then Deep cleaned again 3 times, to wash it through the print head.

I reloaded the normal ink filled cartridge and ran the '8' page again till I got good black output. It has now been working without problem, daily, for over a week. Clearly if it's a Magenta only problem, the cleaning as described above would be a bit different, as the magenta is one of 4 colour cartridges.
My printer does quite a lot of work, and was bought at least a couple of years ago, being used daily for alpha numeric and photo printing work. This was the first difficulty I experienced with it.
Hope the above might help.Ken

Hi it's Gill again. I've been looking around more on the net and I think the problem is our printers need new printheads which I'm told are spare parts easy to change. Hope this helps. Gill

Re Canon Pixma 4000 black ink is not printing colours are printing Computer not used for 6 months

Canno ip 4000:

please go to the maintenance tab.
This you will find if you try to print anything.
In the print box >go to properties>go to maintence
Here the following Maintenance option are there:
cleaning,
deep cleaning,
Head Alignment,
Nozzle check.
Before your start maintenance, please check whether all print tanks have ink in them
Do a Nozzle check first, this will indicate where you have the problem. Once identified, you can do a color cleanig or a deep cleaning.
Do a Nozzle check again.
You could repeat this cycle about three times or so.

If your problem still persists, then its probably the Print head with jammed nozzles.

Please let me know whether you could solve it.
Please do rate this solution and thanks for using FixYa.

Canon iP90 stopped printing in BLACK

hi... it might be that you need some time to let the ink absorb into the pads in the print heads ... this can take between a few hours and a day... Must be frustrating to deep clean three times and just seem that you are wasting ink cartridges, my "solution" would be to give it time or possibly clean the print heads manually.. hope it will solve it out..

thank u!!

Canon MP750 not printing

I had a similar problem. I put in a new ink tank but did not seat it properly. When I tried to print nothing came out. Worse yet, apparently it burned out those jets in the print head! A new print head fixed my problem. I got it on eBay and am very satisfied.
