Generally speaking, if the Blu-ray player is working properly and has no further wrong codecs or configurations, then it may be possible that your Blu-ray discs are not able to be read by the Blu-ray player.

In most cases, the issue might be with the Java contents on the new Blu-ray discs is making this issues. The Blu-ray technology is developing everyday and adding more and more features to the existing technology. Hence it is required to make the Blu-ray Player up-to-date by installing the latest firmware update available from the manufacturer (who ever it is). Going ahead with the first step, please install the latest firmware update available for the Blu-ray Player.
Please click the following link to get the latest firmware update available for your Blu-ray Player:

You can review the "Important Notes" and "Firmware Update Instructions" on the page to get the instructions to install the firmware update.
If the issue persists after installing the firmware update, the would have been with the disc. Check the disc with another player, try different discs with same player.

Have purchased Terminator Salvation and 2012 on bluray, both Sony discs, they load and go to menu screen, however the icons to allow you to play or scene select etc do not appear, menu just plays over and...

Most likely you need to 'flash' (update) your BDP-S300's firmware. I had the same issue while trying to play AVTR in my BDP-S300. I downloaded Sony's latest firmware update, burned it to disc and popped the disc into the player... It takes 5-10 minutes for the 'flashing' to take place. AVTR now works in my player... Had to do this with one other Blu-ray movie about 18 months ago also.

Download the latest firmware version for the BDP-S300 here...

It will say cant play disc

That is a lens problem.

You can try using a BRD lens cleaner to clean the blue ray lens, but with a Sony blue ray it is better to call Sony first, as using this kind of equipment may affect your warranty status.

Call Sony at the number listed on the owners manual and describe the problem.

My sony bdp-s300 discs sticking

try cleaning the lens as you would with you previously owen DVD player. Also make sure the disks are clean. If that doesn't work, try resetting the machine by pressing and holding BOTH the stop and power buttons for about 10-15 seconds.
