The shutter button fell off and won't stay back on. Camera shop wants $100-$130 to fix it. What can I do besides simply taping the thing back on. Paying $130 seems a bit ridiculous! Help!

Chrome Shutter button was there yesterday but not today. Can't find. I tried to find parts breakdown and repair manual to download on Sony but to no avail. Thank you AGENT ALLEN for your help and input. Taking time and sharing your knowledge is of great help. Ron

Same problem as everyone else. The button just popped off. Frustrating...spent too much money to have that happen.

Hey melboz,
You can purchase a replacement shutter button from the manufacturer for about $18 and I have included a link to the part for sale at Sony. If the camera is less than a year old the repair could be free thru the manufacturer, but I am assuming this is not the case since Sony is telling you they want $140 to fix it. I have never replaced this shutter button myself but from what I can tell by searching the internet it is not too difficult to do yourself. I hope this helps!

Sincerely,
Allan

Shutter fell out

I think you need a new camera. Even when you think you could fix the shutter, there can and will be more damage to the camera. Today, a single repair could cost more hen a brand new camera with better specs then the one you would like to have repaired.

You will be able to replace the shutter button alone to resolve the issue. It is not required to replace the whole body. You can contact sony direct accessories and Parts Center to get the replacement shutter button.

The shutter buttom fell off just like many of the other people on here. Sony tech sent me to their web site to get estimate and repair ticket. It looks like I'm S-O-L.

If you do a search for "sony h2 shutter button replacement" on Google.com you will find a shop that sells both the shutter button and a repair service to install the shutter as well.

Hope this helps!

Shutter button fell off Sony Cyber-shot DsC-W5 Camera

I bought a "for parts" dscw50 off ebay & unscrewed the side panels; this allowed me to remove the whole top panel (entire silver piece) & exhange it with the one on my own camera which I had broken the shutter button off of. Works fine now.

I have a Sony DSC-H5 and the shutter button does not allow me to push it half way -- only all-the-way -- the macro won't focus.

It is a common problem on this model. You need to replace the control assembly to fix the problem. Here is a link to show you how to replace the assembly and where to get the part.

DSC H5 - shutter button problem

Here is a $2 fix to this problem.
It just takes some electrical tape, a small piece of manila paper or similar and one thumbtack.

After the silver shutter button fell off, I tried a thumbtack and found that it did a good job of doing the pre-focus and capturing of the image. I then took a piece of black electrical tape about 3 inches long and in the middle, pasted on a small circle of construction paper or manila folder type of paper slightly bigger than the head of the thumbtack. This piece of cardboard will lie on top of the thumbtack head. This prevents the electrical tape from sticking directly to the thumbtack so that the thumbtack is free to move up and down (and trapped in position) without being stuck to the tape. I then put the electrical tape in position so that the thumbtack is held with its pin stuck into the shutter button.

Works well and doesn't look that bad either since the black tape blends into the body and the thumbtack is not visible.
