I have a GE Profile JGP990 gas cooktop. The igniters are generating a regular spark and once the gas flows it lights immediately but often when I turn it on cold there is a delay of 20-30 seconds before I hear the gas flow. This happens especially when the stove is cool. After one burner has been running a while the other burners will light within a second or two. Any ideas?

Can a GE profile black 4 burner with down draft gas cook top be converted to propane gas? How?

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly
Everything I am reading says this unit comes with an LPG conversion Kit. It may have been removed by the detailer / retailer that you purchased it from (when ever that was.)

The 0.0354 orfices are supposed to be in the front of the inside of the cooktop and are labeled LP.
It is a matter of removing the 4 Natural Gas orifices and installing the LP orfices and then adjusting the air-flow of the grill burner Air Shutters as shown in the manual on page 32.

The center nut has to be removed from the top of the internal gas regulator and the mini post / plunger inverted and then the nut is reinstalled.

Just note that any conversions are supposed to performed by a qualified gas technician as stated by the WARNING in the manual on page 30.

The manual is here:

The step by step instructions are in the product user guide on page 30

or you can go to this link and click on info and guides:

GE Profile nat gas cooktop, Model No JGP636BEV3BB won't ignite

If you can hear the clicking sound but are not getting a spark then there is probably a short in the ignition system. Check for any loose wires on the ignition system. Make sure all the wires are properly seated. Make sure the spark module is properly grounded. As far as testing the spark module it should be generating a spark of course. The problem is that the average voltage for the spark module is 15,000 VDC so actual testing of that voltage can be difficult. Is the spark erratic?(should spark evenly). An erratic spark timing is a sign of a bad spark module. Is the spark slow? Check the polarity of the electrical plug. If it is clicking evenly then it is probably arcing somewhere inside the cooktop and you just need to find out where. Also be aware that if you get water into the cooktop that can cause possible grounding of the spark module or ignition system.

Ignitors are igniting on their own

they are not lighting they are sparking on there own right? No actual flame? if they are sparking on there own you need a new spark module.
