How to edit Media Center Recordings

Easiest FREE way I've found to edit Recordings made in Windows Media Center is done using Windows Live Movie Maker (Part of the Windows Live Essentials Free Downloads)
I have found that there is some technique involved in making successful edits of the recording.
  1. Open the recording you want to edit in Movie Maker, click save and name the save file what you wish (This file just stores your edit markers and makes no changes to the original recording)
  2. Since most recordings have some overlap, you first need to find the actual beginning and end of the recording, under tools, mark the start and end points using the buttons labeled as such. Click SAVE
  3. Editing the commercials is done in a similiar manner. Browse thru the recording to the start point of the commercial, under tools, click the SPLIT button, then browse to the end of the commercial segment, click split again. (This separates a the commercial portion from the rest of the recording) Right click the commercial segment, Click Delete on the drop down menu and that commercial is deleted (Note the run time is adjusted to the removal point) Click save and repeat on all other commercials.
  4. Once editing is complete, you should have about 22 minutes for a half hour show or 43 minutes for an hour show. Click Save
  5. Here is where I drove myself crazy till I learned the trick. Once edits are saved, CLOSE movie Maker. I don't know exactly why, but I spent a week learning that no matter what I did, 90% of the time when I tried to create movie, movie maker would LOCK UP. Trial and error eventually proved that if I made my edits, then Saved and closed Movie Maker. The re-opened Movie Maker and opened the edit file, that I could then Create Movie successfully every attempt. Click File, Create Movie, and choose your format. (I use widescreen) Saving process is slow, about the length of the show or 1% per minute. This creates a .WMV file about 1/3 the size of the original.
  6. If you want to compress the file even more you can use an encoder to convert the file from WMV to a compressed format (I prefer AVI) I use SUPER © from Erightsoft.com

A lot of my favorite music is on my flash drive, error code 43 message

Code 43 Error Message

The Code 43 error is one of several Device Manager error codes. The Code 43 error will almost always display in the following way:

"Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)"

Details on Device Manager error codes like Code 43 are available in the Device Status area in the device's properties

rror Code 43 Troubleshooting

  1. Restart your computer if you haven't done so already.

There is always the chance that the error Code 43 you're seeing on a device was caused by some temporary problem with the hardware. If so, a restart of your computer might fix the Code 43 error.

Note: Some users have also reported that powering off their computer completely (not just a reset) and then turning it back on has corrected their Code 43 issue, especially if it exists on a USB device. In the case of a laptop, turn it off and remove the battery, wait a few minutes, and then put the battery back in and start the computer.

  2. Did you install a device or make a change in Device Manager just before the Code 43 error appeared? If so, it's very possible that the change you made caused the Code 43 error.

Undo the change if you can, restart your PC, and then check again for the Code 43 error.

Cause of the Code 43 Error

A Code 43 error is generated when Device Manager stops a hardware device because the hardware reported to Windows that it's having some kind of unspecified problem.
This extremely generic message could mean there's a true hardware issue or it could simply mean that there's a driver problem that Windows isn't seeing as such but that the hardware is being affected by.

Help!...While 'collecting for output' an error -43(file not found). All images are OK. Not sure what to do...

Check under Usage and check that all the images are valid and updated. If these are correct, check whether the images are quark EPS files, if they are place the files in illustrator or photoshop (DO NOT OPEN THEM) and then save them in the appropriate format. Before you do this ensure that you have copies of these files .

Hope this helps.

Deleting

Error -43 is the common "File Not Found" error.  This can also mean a folder is not found. (A Google search for "macintosh error codes" returns a complete list from Apple at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1618.)  I don't know why it would say this unless the files really don't exist.
Dragging an item to the Trash doesn't usually require a password unless you are not the owner of the item.  This can occur when copying items from another user's account, for example.
Try selecting all of the items that you want to delete, hold down the Option key, and choose Show Inspector from the File menu.  In the Sharing & Permissions area at the bottom of the Inspector window, verify that you have permission to delete the files.  If not, click the lock icon, type an administrator's username and password, then change the Privilege to Read & Write (you might have to use the + icon to add yourself to the list before changing anything).
Close the Inspector window and delete the items.  This should do the trick.
