I have a IBM xSeries 8668021X with a embedded Dual channel Adaptec 7899 controller on the mother board. I have down loaded the SONY tape tools and ran diagnostics against the drive. The drive works.
However when I open the accessories\system tools\backup application the system cannot find the tape drive. When I look in the hardware manager it shows the tape drive as functional but has no driver associated with it. When I load the Sony driver (from the sony web page) and reboot the system, the drive now has an driver error (yellow question mark) on the tape drive inthe hardware manager. This tape drive worked under Windows 2000 PRO but doesn't work now under my XP Upgrade. Any body got an Idea

Check ram , remove ram and clean it and ram slot also , then fix ram on ram slot then start , if does not start then use another ram , then after all its does not start then check you mother board
If you are comfortable getting inside the PC here's some things you can try.
Take the side panel off and pull the memory sticks out. Now turn the PC on without the sticks in it and listen for a screaming banshie. If you hear the screaming banshie it means *********** board should be okay. If you hear no noise at all there you may have a bad mother board.
While inside the PC unplug all cables for about 10 seconds and plug them back in. Do this one at a time so you don't loose track of where they go. Also carefully pull the processor out and plug them back in. Turn PC back on and test.
Unplug the power supply from the mother board and plug it onto power socket by itself without having anything connected to it and see if it runs okay on it's own. If not it's probably bad.
Last but not least If you know how to boot the PC into the BIOS configuration do so and check what temperature the PC is set to shut down at.
Hi the problem you are having is with the drivers for the mother board what you need to do is find out what the main board is in your computer their should be a printed part on the mother board that tells you what mother board you have then using google type in drivers for (enter make and model of mother board here then press enter) then download the latest drivers for *********** board and install them this will get the sound working again
It is not detecting the HDD because the windows install does not have the necessary drivers. On the windwos install you must press F6 or F2 I don't remember which one but it prompts you for them to load external drivers fro SCSI or other type of drives, you must download the right drivers for the type of HDD the server has probably fromt eh IBM support website, put them in a floppy and load them from the floppy into the windows install so it recognizes the drives..
