I just got a Dell Optiplex Gx 280. It will not get wireless. WHat is the simplest thing to get so that we can use the internet wirelessly (that si not a word, I know).

There is no S280 in the Optipex model line, just GX 280 and SX 280.
The problem you are describing is common to the GX 280 model.

Select "Small Form-Factor Computer" and then select "About Your Computer". Scroll down to "System Board Components".
To the right of the processor is a smaller heat-sink attached to the motherboard via a wire similar to the size of a paper clip bent open. That wire is soldered to the motherboard which may have loosened it's connection and the circuit is open. This heat-sink on the chipset of the motherboard. The wire needs to be re-soldered to the motherboard.

If your connected to the internet there is only 1 logical solotion why your network cable is unpluged. You have a PCi wireless card installed. It will even function without an antena. Check the pack of your pc.

And install it for your gx 280 . If the problem persists then you have to Download Universal audio architecture from here.

Then again you have to install the above driver

Did you install it to the factroy default installation or did you install windows anew? 

You need to install the Dell sound drivers. They're found on the dell home page or on your media that came with the Optiplex. 

Also, check the system control / administtration / hardware section to see if windows potted a problem with the hardware. 

If you do you will probably need to replace the proccessor also. The proccessor is what is DuoCore and the the motherboard needs to support it
