I have a Gigabyte GA-945GM-S2 motherboard. I want to change the boot menu to boot from the CD. The problem is the up/down arrows won't move the highlight bar from the floppy.

I love using Gigabyte boards in my own Home Theater PCs, so I run across this problem sometimes when I'm setting them up for the first time with a USB keyboard. Pretty sure the problem you're having is the same--the BIOS isn't set to 'recognize' USB keyboards by default, so try the following:
  • Turn it off, and connect an older PS/2 style connecting KB to it;
  • Turn it back on, enter the BIOS, and find the settings page with 'USB Keyboard' in it;
  • Change that setting to BIOS rather than SYSTEM, so next time you boot, it will 'see' your USB KB. Plug in your USB KB before rebooting, then save the settings and reboot the PC again.
  • You can leave the old PS/2 KB plugged in to make sure you can change things, but try your USB keyboard out as well. You should be able to control BIOS settings upon reboot.

Hopefully this was all you needed. If it persists, be aware that some Gigabyte mobos have had BIOS issues galore (eBay is full of Gigabyte BIOS chips).

My PC running a Gigabyte GA-M55SLI-S4 motherboard won't boot up - it emits a continuos series of beeps: a 1sec beep with a 10sec pause then keeps repeating & cannot even get into Bios setup

Check your CPU make sure its placed correctly and that you don't have too much contact grease,you only need a very small amount.
If that's not the problem try re-seating your ram and video card.
Other then that look at the power supply could be under powered!
hope this has helped

System shuts down at times. May take several times to try and reboot. When I try to reinstall windows with a CD Recovery Disk, I get an error which says Bios ACPI not comliant and will not go any further....

Enter you're bios and disable ACPI. Wait until you have at least SP2 installed before enabling ACPI. While in the bios open, Hardware Monitor & MISC Setup. Watch the CPU temp. See page 53 in you're manual.
You're system shutting down may be caused by the CPU over heating. This is a safety feature for all MBs. Suggest that you remove the CPU heat-sink assembly from the CPU. Check the thermal past / tap. If it is dried or cracked replace. Remove the old using house hold alcohol on a clean rag. (Not dripping wet). At this point there is no need to remove the CPU. Clean the CPU's fan and blow out any dust build-up within the assembly. The heat build up will cause you're system from booting untill the CPU cools. This is why it seems to take awhile for you're system to boot.

I have a problem with my board Gigabyte GA-G31M-ES2L, encounter no display & no beeps even though I remove the RAM in the board please help me to solve this problem?

Do the fans still start spinning ? And did you do a CMOS clear ?
You should also try booting it without a graphics card and/or any other audio/network card, etc, so you only have the CPU and motherboard (and also try it with 1 RAM bank and without). When it beeps, it's probably alright (implicating other failing hardware).

When you hear no beeps at all (but the fans spin), it's pretty likely that the board is gone. You might want to doublecheck the powersupply and CPU nevertheless.

Motherboard is not booting!!!!!

Hi Jay,
Is you're memory installed in the two yellow slots?
Try using only 1 DIMM in DDRII_1 slot.
Page 17 in you're manual. When using only one PCI-E graphics cards you do not need to plug in extra power to the board, as shown on page 19. (Only need this additional 4-pin Molex when running two PCI-E cards).
Check internal connector is plugged in item,
1 ATX_12V_2X (Pg. 23 in you're manual).
(System will not boot without this).
Also item, 2 main power 24-pin Molex cable is securely connected. Chassis Intrusion Header (By default is opened/no jumper). I don't like the CPU getting hot. It shouldn't. Do you have a spare heat sink & fan for you're CPU? Are you 100% the cooling system is running correctly?
Lastly, here is Gigabyte's Qualified Vendors List (QVL), for you're board. Corsair 2GB is not listed.
