If you laptop appears to boot up and the hard disk LED flashes then the problem could be a back light problem. This could be a faulty inverter or a faulty CCFL lamp. Please click on this link to determine the fault and possible fix :-

Cant logon black screen

Do you see anything? No "ghost image"? A white cursor in the top left? Any damage ? Drop? Jarred? Bumped? May be backlighting, inverter, lose ribbon cable, bad graphic adapter. Can you attach a external monitor to verify the graphics adapter? Take a look at this video for ideas: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Yi6GNFcP3w Remove ALL media from DVD rom, usb, etc. shut down, unplug, remove battery, plug in, reboot. Any change?

My HP laptop screen will not do anything. The first time this happened, I was in the middle of something and the screen suddenly became a bunch of black and white random-ness. I shut it down, and tried...

Perform the following:

1. Disconnect the AC Adapter.
2. Remove the Battery.
3. Hold the Power button down for 30 seconds to 1 minute.
4. Reconnect the AC adapter and do NOT connect the battery now.
5. Turn on the Notebook power.

If turned on, shut down the Notebook, insert the Battery and turn it on again. That's it.

Cause:
With an extensive use of the notebook, some times notebook would store some static charges which indeed will stop the notebook from powering up or charging the battery.

Performing above procedure will not effect any personal data or delete any pictures from the hard drive on your notebook.

After turnoing on my sl500 the screen flickers and turns black

Check your video adapter settings. try to set it on clone and see if the picture would appear the same on your LCD. From there you select it back to your LCD. Just make sure the primary display is set to your LCD and apply the changes.

Hope this helps.

Black screen, power and battery are ok

Hi,

Check fuse in plug first...!

Take the battery out and then plug the power adapter in and try to power it on, if it comes on power the laptop off again remove power adapter and put the battery back in and plug the power adapter back in.
If it didn't power on or light up on the laptop then the power adapter has gone faulty, buy a new one.

Power it on again, if it doesn't power up at all and there are no power lights the battery has come to end of its life.

If it powers on fine, then it just locked up, one of those things.

Thanks
