Incompatible types and version of printer drivers when installed in Windows 7 can cause issues which might hinder the installation process thereby causing the installed drivers to become corrupt. The users of Windows 7 are therefore advised to verify the version and type of printer drivers before the installation and install only those drivers that are fully compatible with the Windows OS on the system to avoid these kinds of issues.

SOURCE: Windows 7 64-bit driver for Canon LBP-2410

Canon replied to me saying;
That printer is not compatible with a 64bit system.
Those drivers on the internet are just for 32bit, unless specified differently

Driver Canon mf5550

http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/printers_multifunction/imageclass_series/imageclass_mf5550

This is all they got.
If they don't have the driver for windows 7, you will be stuck with the possibility of trying my suggestion for installing.

On Windows 7, go to Control Panel then Click on Programs.
Below Program & Features, you will see "RUN PROGRAMS MADE FOR A PREVIOUS VERSION OF WINDOWS"

A new window will open up called PROGRAM COMPATIBILITY.
Follow the instructions, and add a driver for the previous version.

If it works, then you are all set.

If it does not, then you are better off getting another printer.

Eventually, I had to sadly get rid of this printer. It was a great and wonderful printer, and I was sad to see it go because of driver compatibility issues since I got another brand new computer that does not work with it.

IMPORTANT NOTE: 64bit versions are even harder to make it work with this printer.

Hope it helps! Good luck.

MF5550 Win7 Driver?

Hi,
here was a thread on this in the windows 7 drivers forum a few months back

http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7hardware/thread/a80fe5c1-3ae7-42e5-901c-a0c5de632a80
Check the below options..

1. Install the printer via Control Panel (add printer) and when the installer asks for the driver file, browse and click the driverfile for XP (*.inf). Now the printer will work.

2. If you want all provided software installed, download Orca fra Microsoft. Open the installer.msi og remove the lanchcondition which should contain something like this "VersionNT 400) And Not VersionNT64". Then you can install everything.

Cannot run the Canon MF5550 printer (lack of an appropriate driver) running Windows 7. Any solutions?

Drivers for your printer and operating system can be found here along with Guides and Manuals:

http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/printers_multifunction/imageclass_series/imageclass_mf5550#DriversAndSoftware

Uninstall your old driver; download the new driver for your OS and install.

Trust this is helpful. Please vote. :)

I have a canon MF5550 printer that I am trying to use with Windows Vista. There is no compatible printer that I can find. What is recommended?

Canon isn't supporting this printer for Vista. You can try using the driver for XP. Available here: http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/printers_multifunction/imageclass_series/imageclass_mf5550?selectedName=DriversAndSoftware#DriversAndSoftware
You may need to use the Compatibility Mode on the installer as well as the driver. (Right click on the .exe and select Properties. Then go to the Compatibility Tab and check the box for the Run this program in Compatibility Mode and choose XP in the adjacent drop down.) Then right click again on the .exe and choose Run as Administrator to make sure the UAC allows the installer to work.

I hope this helps.

(a generic printer driver may install when you plug in the printer without installing the software first. If this happened you should uninstall that driver before trying the Canon version. If the Canon driver doesn't work, the generic printer driver in Vista will probably let you print but you may lose the scanner features. Please note that the buttons may or may not work to launch the software on the computer. Try opening the software and initiating scans from the computer.)

How can windows xp install this printer in

probably not ... go to www.canon.com/support and get the driver you need to install this device on your computer, if it is supported under XP.

It is XP compatable, RIGHT? Check the microsoft compatability list for XP operating system.

I do not have the cd rom windows can not find the MF5550 is there any compatable soft ware that can install this printer

You can download the drivers for your model from http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=SupportDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=239&modelid=9516

Be sure to select your correct Operating System, and the drivers will appear for download. There are also links to Manuals and other related Documentation listed there as well.

Once you download the file, double click to run the .exe file and follow the on screen prompts for installation.

Canon MF5550 printer driver for Windows Vista

I just found this solution TODAY! After trying for a whole year to fix this thing... It was right at my face the whole time!!!!

1) Uninstall your old Canon MF5550 driver.
2) Reboot your computer
3) Download the Canon MF5550 driver Windows XP version.
4) Open your Vista Control Panel, then click on PROGRAMS (not on Uninstall or something else...)
5) bellow "Programs & Features", click on "use an older program with this version of Windows". Follow the wizard.
6) Locate the program manually. (If you need to search the folder where you downloaded your Canon driver, just go to search file on C. It will probably download on your desktop or Downloads)
7) Open the MF5550 Folder where you downloaded the driver, and click on the setup.exe file.
8) Choose on the next screen Windows XP
9) If you need to change the display settings, go ahead. But I didn't change anything. I just clicked NEXT.
10) Fill in the box: RUN THIS PROGRAM AS AN ADMINISTRATOR and click NEXT.
11) Click Next again and let Windows Vista do its job.
12) If it worked... just click yes and finish. If it didn't, click NO and run it again.

I AM SO HAPPY THIS THING WORKED!!!

Let me know if this worked for you!!!! I know I've looked everywhere for this solution...

email me at [email protected]

GOOD LUCK! GOD BLESS!
