To start the system recovery:

  1. Restart the computer.
  2. When the Acer logo appears on the screen, press the Alt and F10 keys repeatedly.
  3. If you are prompted with a Microsoft Windows boot screen, press the Enter key.
  4. After the system recovery application has loaded, follow the prompts to reinstall the Operating System.
If the ability to reinstall from the previous method is not available or fails, recovery of the Operating System will need to be from Recovery Media.
Note: If your computer does not have an internal optical disc drive, an external optical disc drive will be required in order to recover the Operating System using Acer Recovery Media.
  1. Restart the computer.
  2. When the Acer logo appears on the screen, press the F12 key repeatedly to enter the computer's Boot Menu.
  3. Press the CD-ROM drive eject button and insert the disc labeled System CD.
  4. Close the CD-ROM tray.
  5. Refer to on screen instructions to select either CDROM or USB CDROM.
  6. The computer will boot from the Acer Recovery Media
  7. When prompted for the Recovery CD, remove the System CD and insert the Recovery CD.
Note: If there are multiple Recovery CDs, please insert the first of the Recovery CDs.
  8. After the system recovery application has loaded, follow the prompts to reinstall the Operating System.
Note: If you do not have a set of Acer Recovery Media, you may purchase the set online from the Acer Recovery Media Order Form. If your computer is unable to run the Acer Recovery process, or errors occur during recovery, please contact Acer support.

Had 4 exhaust gaskets replaced over two year period now I have the same problem again

Hi Don. Is a shop doing the gasket replacement or was it a D.I.Y. thing? I ask because the problem may very well be a warped/cracked exhaust manifold, or worse a cylinder head issue. If your doing this yourself, perhaps remove the exhaust manifold and take it to a shop to be checked for warpage or cracks, and simply repace it (along with a new gasket of course) if yours is found to be faulty. Also, use new hardware ( studs/bolts) to install the manifold and torque to proper torque specs. Proper torque is important.

My computer always ask about backup, i don't know what's wrong?

It is good to back up your PC files so that you can recover all your important info, photos and music. I personally use an online backup service. It is super easy to install and use. You can get free back up here, http://goo.gl/3VahX I hope this helps you as it has me.

I broke the mini usb port on my external hd can it be repaired..

Hi Kathleen,
Depending on the extent of the damage it may be possible for your local PC store technician to repair the USB connector.
Take the drive to your local PC store and enquire about a repair and what the cost would be.
At the same time you can ask them what it will cost for a new external USB hard drive case. They can easily remove your hard drive from the damaged case and install it into a new case. This will most likely be cheaper than having the old one repaired, as a new case should only set you back $10 or $20.
Best wishes,

I can't open my buffalo drive

Hello fradymg,
If you are speaking about a hard disk drive built within the last 20 years, then the hard drive is not meant to be opened.
(Way back in 1975 I worked on hard disk drives that could be repaired or adjusted by a qualified technician).
I have three suggestions:
(1) I presume the drive is already out of the computer.
  • Buy a new hard disk from a local computer shop.
  • Install the new one.
  • Connect the data cable.
  • Connect the power cable.
  • Switch on the PC;
  • Insert your Operating system CD and re-install the OP system.
(2) If the data on the drive is *very, very* important:
Take your drive to a good computer shop and they will attempt to recover the data.
Note: this is generally VERY expensive.
(3) Take your computer to the computer shop and have the technician install the new hard disk and also the operating system.
This option will give you a working computer in the shortest delay, at only medium cost.
Hope this helps.

I'm repairing laptops for eight years and this problem has something to do either with the HDD or your RAM. If you have two modules of RAM try either of the two if it will pose the same problem. If not definitely the culprit is your HDD. It doesn't matter if it is brand new that it will work perfectly. They are transported and we don't know how they were handled.

Laptop fell now have error saying hard drive damaged, how do i fix this please, regards Mags

Dropping a laptop has most likely damaged the hard drive, especially if the laptop was running at that time.
The hard disk needs to be replaced and Windows installed on the new hard disk, plus the laptop's device drivers and your programs.
If you cannot replace the hard drive and Install Windows yourself, then you need to ask a computer savy friend to help you or you need to take the laptop to your friendly computer shop for repairs.

My Western digital 1tb wont work inspite of drivers being instal

Mybook does not require any additional driver to work on systems from Win XP onward, same for recents Linux and MAC OS.
If the drive is not detected on more of one computer, then it is usually because of a fault.
Try a replacement cable (mybook uses Mini USB to USB, available at computer and at camera shops). If still no luck contact WD, mybooks have one year warranty. If you want to recover data, the disk must be mounted on a different enclosure, that service can be asked when discussing repair.

Hard drive will not turn on. when i try to turn on the hard drive it does not turn on at all. How do i fix this, or should i just buy a new computer

If the hard drive is acting that way the best way to fix this problem is to go get a new hard drive and replace the bad one and that will save you money and time rather than getting a new computer....

Click check now and your drive will be checked for bad sectors and file errors, although it may ask you to restart your pc first, but it can take about 30 minutes to 1 hour to check and repair if neccasary.
