Try running it without the battery. Sometimes an IBM battery can develop a short and cause this. If it still does it without the battery, I'm afraid it's the power management chip on the motherboard, and the motherboard will need to be replaced.

I have a IBM Think pad laptop running Windows xp that keep shutting down, it go through the POST OK. then 2-3 minutes it shut down. The fan is OK, and the cooling system is ok, so what do I do next.

Hi

its either a software problem or a hardware problem

normally over heating shuts down older style laptops

try using a lap top cooling pad

When old IBM Think Pads fail to boot it is usually because the CMOS battery has worn out. It is very easy and inexpensive to replace. Youtube has numerous videos showing how to replace it e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ZI-8Q2j-zQ
