As in my other answer, check for blown capacitors on the motherboard. Sounds like there is a power issue with your onboard graphics. You could try another video adapter (PCI or AGP only, these are the slots available to you.)
Hi,since your computer is P4 3.0ghz,your looking for agp 6200 graphic card..and not the 1 gb ddr3 because this is pci-e and its not compatible with your slot..I can offer to you is the 256 mb agp video card, coz its hard to find now the 1gb ddr1 coz its all absolute now.thanks
Yes, it is compatible, just that you must first uninstall the previous video driver, then configure the BIOS to route the video signal to the PCI and not the AGP and only then install the new card. And in the end it will behave worse than the previous AGP card you got because the PCI interface is way slower than the AGP.
Just buy a good AGP card, PCI cards are made for office pc's in which the onboard one is totally obsolete.
There are no SATA headers on the motherboard. (Connector on motherboard is a Header)
You have 1 AGP slot for a graphics card, and 3 PCI slots, (White in color)
You can however, buy and install a SATA adapter card in one of those PCI slots. (The computer comes with a modem adapter card in one, of the PCI slots, therefore you may have two PCI slots that aren't being used)
This is Sony Support, and the main page for the Vaio PCV-RS420 Desktop PC Computer,
Under the heading - Specs, you can click on - Marketing Specifications (PCVRS420) This tells you the Expansion Slots you have, ( 1 AGP, and 3 PCI) (Plus other specifications)
In case you do not have the User Manual anymore, you can download it by clicking on - VAIO User Guide - under the Manuals heading. (Shows how to open the computer case, among other information)
This is an example of a SATA adapter card with internal SATA headers, and external e-SATA ports,
You can not use a PCI-E card. This mobo has one AGP slot and TWo PCI(not PCI-E) slots.
I am assuming you have a Dell Optiplex GX260?
It has the D845 series board. Goto Newegg.com and search for: AGP. They have a nice x1650pro agp card for cheap. I have the same board in one of my PC's
Hi, if you were to use something like the GEFORCE FX 5200 graphics card, this would work OK for most low level games. However if you wish to play the top end games you would need to upgrade either your motherboard to one with an AGP slot or better still one with 2 PCI-E slots. Regards mistyman
