This is a fairly old device. Is there any chance that it the laser diode has failed in the device?

The 107 is getting a little long in the tooth, there may be a firmware update from here, but I doubt it. It's probably time to upgrade.

My cd/dvd rom (sd r2412) wont' read anything...first it did not read dvd's , now it does not read cd's....

The cd/dvd drive could have failed. Try contacting Toshiba's support line and seeing if there is anything they can do. Your laptop's specs also suggest it is probably pretty outdated and you could use a newer laptop if you can afford it.

Cannot read the dvd disc

Your problem could be the DVD itself (make sure that the disc is not scratched or dirty) or the DVDD drive. If the drive will read other discs then the problem is the actual DVD. If the drive will not read anything else then it is time to replace the drive.

Problem Reading CD / DVD

The laser lens needs cleaning.
Radio Shcah has a CD / DVD cleaner kit ($13). It is an audio CD with a row of bruches, no chemicals. It can be used many times.
It will not harm your dvd drive if not used correctly.
Read the directtions carefully.

My DVD wont recognize any DVDs. This just started today.

Well, DVD Drives do burn out, and while you probably don't want to hear it, you might have to buy a new one. If you have restarted the computer several times, and haven't installed anything lately, then it may just be dead. But you should try to remember if you have installed anything lately, or done anything to change the laptop. Also, see if it will read CD's, or if it makes noise like the CD/DVD is spinning up/down or the eye is moving back and forth when you insert it. Good Luck

Says that it cannot read disc

You can either try cleaning the disk and the lens. scratches and damages affect your DVD player. Dust on the lens may cause similar problems to yors. If you have a VCR or anything heavy on top of the player, remove it because overheating messes up your dvd player and may cause unrepairable damage.

Good luck and let me know if anything helps
