Okay so no resolution for the problem. I have a Qosmio G35 series that starts to boot, but goes directly to the blinking cursor on the upper left of the screen after the splash window, then the cursor disappears and the screen is blank. I've seen other folks swear it is the hard drive limitation that causes this, and yet others say it isthe usb drivers being updated to service pack 3 that does it. But none of this helps me. I can't get into the machine to fix any of it...

You can boot from XP cd.
When prompted..press [R] this will launch recovery console.
Choose your windows installation (typically by pressing [1] press return..
When prompted for password type chkdsk /r
Press return..Windows will fix errors..type Exit and press return..
Let me know if that helps.

SOURCE: cant boot

If you are sure no one has tampered with it and entered a HDD password and it is not prompting for a password then it is most likely a HDD failure. It is possible the BIOS will still recognize the HDD. Try disconnecting and reconnecting the HDD if you can access it there should be screws on the bottom marked with a cylinder symbol.

SOURCE: hard drive not seen in windows xp

It is not showing up in XP yet because it has to be partitioned and formatted first. You can see it in disk management and partition it from there, then format it.

Are you getting the Acer logo on start up? If so you might have a software issue on the hard drive, or the hard drive itself is defective. I suggest using your recovery disc to re-install windows and drivers providing you have them.

My Toshiba has a finger recognition unit on it. It

Try booting up in safe mode (tap F5 as the computer starts up until you get the black screen with white text and select Safe Mode).

Log in as Administrator. With any luck you will have no password for the Administrator account.

Go to Start->Run
type CMD and hit enter

You'll be at a command prompt. Substituting your user name for <username> and a new password for <password> type in

net user <username> <password>

Now your password has been changed. Reboot into Windows and log in.

Black screen and in the upper left corner there is a cursor theat is blinking ... and teat is all

It sounds like a problem loading the operating system. Try booting from an installation CD to see if anything comes up... if it loads from the CD, there could be a problem with your hard drive.
When it turns on, try entering the BIOS by pressing the correct key (usually DEL, F10, F12, or F2) Make sure that the boot device is set to your hard drive. If you do this and it loads with an error saying 'insert boot media' or 'boot device failed' you'll have to either try fixing your boot sector (which can get tricky, but I'll walk you through it if you really want to attempt it) or a much easier fix, reinstall the operating system.
