if you have the CD driver for your laptop (audio driver) try reinstalling it.

could be 2 main causes, either the LCD converter under or behind the screen under the beizel has failed and is messing up the display, or simply the sreen could have been cracked at one point, either way these parts have to be obtained from toshiba.. SOURCE: Toshiba won't boot
You can boot from XP cd.
When prompted..press [R] this will launch recovery console.
Choose your windows installation (typically by pressing [1] press return..
When prompted for password type chkdsk /r
Press return..Windows will fix errors..type Exit and press return..

If you are sure no one has tampered with it and entered a HDD password and it is not prompting for a password then it is most likely a HDD failure. It is possible the BIOS will still recognize the HDD. Try disconnecting and reconnecting the HDD if you can access it there should be screws on the bottom marked with a cylinder symbol.
SOURCE: hard drive not seen in windows xp
It is not showing up in XP yet because it has to be partitioned and formatted first. You can see it in disk management and partition it from there, then format it.
