My G5 Mac with Tiger has been very slow, displaying the "beachball" frequently. I turned it off and when I turned it on again, I get a grey screen, a chime and a blue circular image in the middle of the screen. It doesn't boot up. Do I need a new computer? It is 7 years old.

Sounds like there is a issue with either the operating system or the hard drive.
Try booting from the Mac OS X install disc. insert disc press power while holding down the "C" on the keyboard.
If you can, while running from the disc, go to the Disk Utilities app within the Applications > Utilities folder
select the hard drive and run disk permissions. If it runs without any red errors the issue is with the operating system. If you get any red errors listed or it doesn't finish the job, its a hard drive issue and it will need to be replaced.

My G5 freezes constantly. What can I do.

Try running Apple Hardware Test on the machine (it's one of the discs that came with the machine.) Also, if it's freezing by showing the spinning rainbow cursor (beachballing) you may have a failing hard drive. That wouldn't be uncommon for how old the machine is.

Upgrade for a 2005 apple mac desktop tiger 10.4

The highest you can get up to is leopard 10.5. Unfortunately, after 10.5 Apple moved to Intel getting rid of the powermac processors.

Depending on your specs I would recommend sticking with tiger, but leopard should run fin on your powermac. It runs great on mine.

Did you use a system specific install of Tiger (OS X 10.4)? If so, you need to use the retail version of the OS so it will work across the board with all Macs.

Is the Sharp LC-22DV17UT (combination liquid crystal tv and dvd/cd player) compatible with a MAC G5?

That TV/combo unit does have a VGA port, so it should be detected as a standard monitor from the G5 at 1366x768 resolution. I'd definitely try to upgrade the G5 to Leopard if it isn't detecting - Leopard has far better monitor support than Panther or Tiger did...

Hi, You need a Tiger or Leopard installation disk. Then You start up the system holding down "C" instead of installing you start the "disk utillity" and repair it.
You can access singel user mode by starting up the system holding down command + S.
