Hotpoint Ultima WF860 Front Load Washer Logo

My Hotpoint WD860p washing machine purchased about 5 years ago in the UK has developed a fault which has got progressively worse over the last 2 weeks to the point now the machine can't complete a load and shows fault code F-02. Researching the F02 code online indicates a motor jammed or motor tacho fault. Thinking broader than just the F02 code, I removed the belt to confirm the problem wasn't related to bearings or something else. Drum spins freely, and motor without the belt attached "stutters" within 2 minutes of starting a wash cycle. I removed the motor to check the condition of it - found out it is a 3 phase motor, confirmed the tacho is working using a multimeter - have done other meter readings but unsure what I should be looking for - can't find any documentation on the motor pinouts. I found the part number - Hotpoint/Indesit/Ariston part number C00112768, and can source it from ebay UK. I now live in New Zealand, so to get it shipped over will cost more than the motor due to the weight - I am OK with the total cost, if it is definately the motor at that is at fault and not a PCB or some other fault. I videoed the motor running without the belt attached from around the back and have posted it online at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jbQn8pshfPE I would really appreciate any expert input/opinions regarding if the motor is at fault or something else. I am obviously keen to make a decision about replacing the motor or next steps ASAP as we are without a washing machine right now, and will have about a weeks lead time for parts from the UK. Thanks very much, - Mike

Just took the motor out of the washing machine again to do further testing.
Using a multimeter, it appears that pins 1 and 2 on the 8 pin connector are shorting within the motor - i.e. no resistance. I can't imagine the motor being designed like that so unless someone advises otherwise I am going to assume this is a fault and replace the motor.

I ended up getting a replacement motor.
The multimeter test was the same on the replcaement motor, but installing it in the washing machine worked perfectly.

SOURCE: Change Bearings for HotPoint WMA62N

Hi, I also have the bearing problem on a hotpoint wma and have just stated the repair job. I have found the following on different forums, so maybe it might help others. You do need to remove the drum and there are two different sizes of bearings 30mm and 35mm. To find the size you need you have to get to the bearings and measure them.
/////////////////
. Ok,Hotpoint wma series drum bearing failure.Firstly very common problem since i work on these things every day-i think there is a design fault-nothing new in this trade! What follows is

the sequence of problems in changing the drum bearings:If the machine has been thrashed into oblivion just changing the oilseal/bearings will have you back to square one within a

couple of months since you would`ve damaged the drum shaft as the bigger bearing of the 2 goes into shapnell mode!So you`d best change the drum shaft(in the trade known as the

spider) however this thing is aluminium usually held onto the the drum via torx headed screws either in steel or soft Al2 also-forget it as your not going to get these out unless your mega

lucky, what we do at work is to replace the whole tank/drum/bearing assembly which comes with a new element and belt ie the whole tank unit, the trade price of this part is less than

£100.00-you can draw your own conclusions as to the retail price as you wish.If you haven`t thrashed the machine you can get away with replacing just the bearings or easier still the rear

half of the tank(trade price 30.00+vat) in which the bearings are already fitted via the factory and reuse the existing spider/drum shaft so long as it isn`t damaged by disintergrated bearing

shapnell.I hope this clears up this problem for you. Please note that this machine`s filter which is at the rear doubles up as the air trap-the oval section 8" long semi transpatent plastic tube

thing-the part that allows the water to compress the air so turning off the level of fill at the right level via the round swt behind the soap dispenser-called the pressure swt-if the filter gets

bunged up the machine o/fills and either overfills or overfills and floods or tries to spin with aload of water still inside the drum or perhaps no spin at all.Hope this helps someone.

/////////////////////////////////////////////

The drum comes out through the front on this one. Take off kick plate and remove screws holding front panel to frame. Take out soap drawer & remove screws behind it. Take off band

holding door seal & peel seal back. Remove 2 screws holding door lock &push lock through. Pull control panel forward at left side & slide to right to remove being careful with board &
wiring. Remove screws holding top end of front then lift slightly &remove front. Remove back panel & take wiring off heating element & pump. Disconnect the pump hose at the drum end,

disconnect the hose from the soap dispenser, note that wiring is fastened to the drum at several points and will need to be disconnected. Remove panel from behind control board then

carefully move everything away from the front of the machine, the drum can now be lifted clear.

Forgot to mention unplugging motor but common sense will prevail.

SOURCE: hotpoint ultima washing machine is showing a fault

F 05 normally means there is a blockage or a fault with the pressure sensor. The common place for blockage is in the black pipe from the drum to the pump as it has a filter in here and clogs up. remove the pipe and clean the filter out and remove gunk from the pressure sensor on the side of the pipe as well. If that does not fix things the pressure switch could be faulty itself

Door lock mechanism replacement

1) Will follow with reason to get hold of company or person who did prior repair.
2) Not familiar with this one.
3) When people more specific then help is a lot easier.
3a) That being said; Hopefully that you have a fix it warranty.
Large home appliances can pay off.
4) My problem was with a Whirlpool top loader. (The newer type with the 4" high impeller.) Machine made noises and had an error code which couldn't be reset. (Powered machine off/on a coupe of times.) Plus the clothes were always soaked and needed to be hand wrung to dry. Couldn't see why as the lid latch prevented opening to watch progress of cycle. (Development of the newer technology.) Had purchased the washer at Lowes. (And for once the extra warranty. A friend's suggestion.) 14 mos. after new the problem occurred. Called Lowes. A repairman came out and being as he had had repetitive faults he went under the machine and tightened the motor's hub nut which was lock washered. 5 days later the problem re-occurred. Called Lowes. They sent a different repair tech next day. This one did the same repair but added a substance (Loc Tite) before he tightened the nut. Loc Tite goes on as a paste or gel then semi hardens to form a lock washer effect by preventing the nut from backing off. That on top of using a new nut and lockwasher. Repair was done a year ago and is still good.
5) See #1. Call the repair company or tech. Hopefully your repair is less than a year old. Not all repairs or techs are equal!

The pressure switch is jammed because the pump filter needs cleaning, the switch itself is not faulty.
You need to locate the filter, remove and clean.
This will solve the prob.

My hotpoint washer/dryer wd860p is spinning on drying cycle but there is no heat. What could this be ? many thanks

the heat coil may be damaged. A few years ago I took apart my dryer and saw that the coil resistance wire (glows red when a current is passed thru it) was broken. I was able to buy the part and put it in and it worked after that. If I had to do it again, I'd just call a repair guy.

Hotpoint WD860P trips rcd within second of being switched on

the usual problem with tripping is the heater of the dryer box has become loose and touching an earth.
if you take the lid off you will see the box on top of the drum.
with the electric off you can look for loose/disconnected wires and wiggle the 2 metal tabs that are the ends of the heater, should not move.
you may be better with an engineer visit if it's not an obvious fault.
