My vacuum kirby is not working,we took it to a repair place and the guy said the problem is the motor but he wants to charge us 400.00 dollars to fix it . can i fix it my self if i buy the parts or is there another solution
Try taking it to a local kirby office and ask them if there is anyone in your area that can refurbish the motor instead of replacing everything. If that doesn't work ask a local dealer or call the dealer that you bought it from and tell them that you would like to trade your old one in for a newer one. I used to work for Kirby and I can guarentee that the Kirby itself, straight from the factory only runs about $200!

It depends. Did you buy it from someone who will honor the warranty? If not you may not have any warranty. Check first with the person you bought it from. You may find if you bought it from someone who came to your house to demo it the company you bought it from is no longer around or in business. Try to find a Kirby warranty center in your area. Be careful though, Make sure to get price quotes before any work is performed. I have many people tell me they took a Kirby vacuum in for maintenance or a minor repair and got hit with a $500 or $700 repair bill when they went to pick it up
Here's an easy to understand and follow video review on how to attach the carpet shampooer to the Kirby Generation 6 (G6). The model that's being used in this video is a little newer model, the Sentria, but the procedure to attach the carpet cleaning attachment is the same exact repair on the Sentria as it is on your Kirby G6 vacuum.

Bracket cam assembly (see and buy HERE). It is worn so it does not disengage gears completely. On the part listing you will also find the instructions on how to replace it.
When a vacuum cuts out while working, it usually indicates overheating. Most have a thermal cut-out, which will reset itself if given time to cool. The cause is usually a blockage of some sort.
Don't know in Australia, but there must be a local repair shop that will repair Kirby's. Sometimes a Sewing and Vacuum store will also offer repair and parts for various vacuums.
