SOURCE: Denon UD-M50 cd changer. Need help extracting drawer for home repair!

Hi KathyKate

If you are still having the same problem with your denon UD-M50 I might be able to help. I have fixed a number of them in the past and have the necessary maintenance manual and knowledge of a company that can supply spare parts. Disassembly looks very complex, especially when the problem is with the carousel but once you have an understanding of the mechanism it's not that difficult. Care should be taken when manually removing and reloading the disc trays as damage can result to the 'Teeth' alongside each. Spare trays are available. All my repairs involved the removal of the carousel mechanism in order to align the trays. I can copy the relevant sections of the manual dealing with the re-alignment which is critical but again if followed exactly you should have no trouble. If you respond with an Email address, I will be only too pleased to forward you the schematics etc.

Regards Ibbotsnm

SOURCE: protect!!!

Hi,

Have you unplugged it from wall since ?
and, do you know if maybe the speakers are blown?
Bad speakers will make it stay in "protect"
Try other speakers after the unplug-plug back in routine.

DENON UD-M30 CD Player is displaying the word PROTECT and will not function. Any ideas how to fix this problem? Many thanks.

HI:
Usually when a receiver goes into protect mode, there are several reasons, One is there is a bad speaker connected to the unit, this will cause the unit to to into protect mode, try disconnecting all speaker from the unit and turning it on if it does not go into protect then one of the speakers are bad. Another reason is the power output Amplifier IC is shorted inside the unit. Another reasons could be that speaker wires are touching each other and causing a short. Disconnect all unit connecting to the unit and try turning on, if it stays on and no protect then connect them including the speakers one at time until you determine which is causing the error. If it goes into protect with nothing but the unit on then the Output IC is bad and the unit needs servicing.

Getting out of protect mode I have a Denon 787 receiver. It was working fine for 8 months. All of sudden, my reciever goes into protect mode after playing for about 30 min. Right after it goes into protect...

most of the receivers come with a cooling fan inside see if its working they usually work when you turn the volume up,, if its working that means you are playing it to loud if you lower the volume a little it will play just fine..( if the fan inside is not working thats the reason it goes into protect mode and it means you must have it repaired,, it goes into protect mode to prevent furter damage to the unit or the speakers,,

Hi Ernietex,

Dont blame your wife.

Your receiver is basically going into protect mode.

The Denon AVRs contains a microcomputer for signal processing and control functions. In an unlikely event, it may cause it to lock up. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet, wait for 10 to15 seconds and then plug it back again.

But, before you do than, please also check your speaker cabling again. Make sure that all of them are seated properly, none is touching each other or the body of receiver. Take out all the wire and put them back again if necessary..
Some times even a little tiny frayed wire touching the receiver could trigger the protect mode. Be careful, since protect mode is sometimes not fast enough and it could blown a few trasistors in the power circuit.
Just check your speaker as well....whether they play all right thru another receiver or amplifier. its posiible they might be shorting inside. A little frayed wire could also trigger the protect circuit in your receiver.
I hope this should solve your problem.

If you still can’t resolve the issue yourself, try resetting the AV receiver/AV amplifier before going on to opening the Receiver.

Hope you can sort out your problem with the above trouble shooting. Let me know if I can guide you further.
Best of luck. Thanks for using FixYa!

After lightning strike, my denon ud-m5 displays "protected" when trying to play fm and doesn't work.

Check the wire at the back of the FM Ant. If possible replaced it or relocate the FM wire.

Good luck

DENON UD M50 CD PLAYER no longer works

Maybe you accidentally break some contact(s), on display or somewhere else. If that is the problem, soldering iron should solve that. Look for any loosen wires or detached contacts.
