Unplug the opener and remove the bulb. Use a small screwdriver and pull out on the center contact of the light socket. Replace the bulb and plug the opener in.
I wrapped a bit of teflon plumbing tape on the threads of my garage door opener light bulbs. This prevented them from vibrating loose. If you do this, make sure not to cover the threads completely, as this will prevent power from flowing. Just wrap the portion closest to the "head" of the bulb.
My opener is a few years old, and not the latest model. After a power outage the lights no longer came on every time we walked in or out (while carrying a load groceries that required multiple trips, for instance). Most of the online advice I found said the circuit board in my opener must be replaced to correct this, but I had a vague recollection that this feature can be turned on & off on my opener (apparently not the case with newer models). After digging awhile, I found LiftMaster's instructions online (https://support.chamberlaingroup.com/s/article/How-to-activate-or-deactivate-the-light-feature-or-adjust-the-light-timer-on-the-Multi-function-door-control-1484145515542). They say to close the door and while the lights are still on, hold down the Light button on the door control. The lights will go off; continue to hold the Light button down and they will come back on. The opener is now programmed to turn the lights on upon entry/exit. It worked for me.
