The bar will sense ice cube level in the holding bin. If it is all the way down it will tell the ice maker to make more ice. When the maker "dumps" the ice the bar should be all the way up and will lower to check the level.
My ice maker on a kitchenaid started making ice real slow after my sister took out the bin to empty the ice in a cooler after that it’s making ice but only a few every couple of hrs I hear the ice
Down as the ice fills the amount of ice building up pushes the bar up shutting of the ice production
sonic boom
SOURCE: Ice cube maker just stopped working. Ice cube arm has no tension to it.
If you can find someone that will take yours apart and rebuild the components inside the front of the ice maker would be good. The problem is with older ice makers you may over look the next part to fail. Your model has a tricky spring that helps the arm lock into place. You can visit our site or call the toll free number and get free help and advice. If you can locate your refrigerator model number that will also be helpful Their numbers always look like this for example 213.54698

when the bar is up...it's off..
it's a sensor that will lift up as the ice tray gets full... otherwise you might have a freezer full of cubes!
So if it's up, it's off...
Cooooooool huh?
Sorry for the pun... but it's Sunday!
