Right-Click "Computer", Manage, Storage/Disk Management. What you see here is what you have, or at least what Windows thinks is connected. If you have a missing hard drive, check your hard drive connections.

I just bought a Dell Back-up plus 1 TB hard disk . when i plug in the USB cable it does not show up on My computer but it shows on "Device manager" and "computer management" .. so i cannot use it as a...

The only thing that I can think of is that you need to go into computer management and click on the "disk management" sub-heading under storage. From there all of the hard drives in the computer should show up. Find the new hard drive in the list and right click on the part where is say Disk 1 or Disk 2 or which ever disk is the correct one (it should be around 930gb or so). Then select initialize disk, and follow the wizard through the choices to setup the disk as a basic hard drive. After the disk is initialized you need to format it and then you should be access the drive in my computer.

I am using segate u series ST340810 hard disk. when I am formatting this hard disk this hard disk does not shows partition to format and shows messege of disk cannot access what should I do?

Hello Ravindr,

After connecting the Segate Hard Drive in your computer go to Control Panel. In Control Panel you will the option Administrative Tool. In Administrative Tool open the Computer Management and you will find the number of attached Hard Drive and the Partitions they have. If the Hard Drive you have attached is not showing the partition then there may some physical damage with the Hard Drive media. Please get your Hard Drive checked by Segate professionals and then replace the Hard Drive with new one.

Hi I am tanvir My problem this below I have Mantor

It is possible that the power cord, data cable or pin selector jumper has been dislodged.

Go in to the bios and try to see if the drive can be recognized.

an outside option is that you contracted a virus that destroyed the MBR (Master Boot Record) rendering the drive unrecognizable.

diagnose top to bottom.

Hard drive problem

It's possible that your computer's motherboard is "old", and it only supports a maximum of 32GB per disk-drive.

Buy a new 80GB or 160GB disk-drive, and copy all your files from the "old" disk to the "new" disk.

My slave hard disk is not showing in my computer

Is it formatted ? Does it have a drive letter associated to it? If not then either format it (right click on My computer -> click Manage -> click Disk Management. Now right click the drive if it is showing there and either create partitions and/or format it if it not already formatted.

If it's already formatted, and you just need to assign a drive letter, then in Disk Management, right click the drive and click Change Drive Letter and Paths and assign an unused drive letter, say Z.

Close Computer Management and open My Computer. The new drive should show up now.
