How to connect my compaq presario V6000 to my dell monitor.

I have a broken screen on my laptop and i am trying to connect an external monitor. my laptop is A Compaq Presario widescreen V6101us model and i have a Dell monitor LCM -17v 2sl DC INPUT -19C...2.6A.
I connected the cables from the monitor to the laptop, and i got a display of the compaq log then no input found.

Try hitting Function (FN key next to the control) and F7 at the same time on the laptop. Also, is the dell monitor's input set to VGA (some have multiple inputs like DVI, VGA, HDMI, etc)

Most likely the cable that connects the LCD screen to the motherboard is broken. Just make sure Fn F5 is not active, that switches it between lcd and external monitors.

Ok, to resolve this you will need to troubleshoot a little further.
Get hold of an external monitor and plug it up to the laptop, switch screens with the keyboard if you have to, if the colour is still the same then i'm afraid its the video card thats faulty and you will have to have it looked at
