Hello
according to HP
Each ink cartridge has an expiration date. The purpose of expiration is to protect the printing system and to ensure ink quality. When you receive an ink cartridge(s) are expired message, remove and replace the expired ink cartridge, and then close the message. You can also continue printing without replacing the ink cartridge, by following the instructions on the HP All-in-One or the ink cartridge expiration message on your computer screen. HP recommends replacing the expired ink cartridges. HP cannot guarantee the quality or reliability of expired ink cartridges. Device service or repairs required as a result of using expired ink will not be covered under warranty.

What color and black and white cartridges should I use for a HP Photosmart 1115 printer?

It looks like your Photosmart 1115 printer uses an HP45 black ink cartridge and an HP78 tri-color cartridge. Some HP printers will accept re-manufactured ink carts, while other HP printers will not...just so you know. I've always bought genuine HP ink cartridges on eBay to save $$$.

My HP Photosmart C6180 All-In-One printer wont let me print using the just the black ink. I have the other colors in the printer but they are expired. I need to print some sheet music and it wont let me....

Inkjet printers require both ink cartridges to be full and not expired before the printer will fully initialize. Even if you are only printing black in both carts do not complete the power up sequence the printer will never go online to print.

Replaced black ink cartridge, but the computer continues to say I need to change the cartridge. How to fix?

Hi,
The issue you are facing is that the cartridges this printer use have an encoded "expiration date".

This date is ~3 years from manufacturing. If you just bought this genuine HP supplies you should be entitled for a "free" replacement from where you bought them.
As it’s ~3 years from manufacturing, this should reflect very poor inventory management practices from the place you bought it from …

If these are refilled supplies, you should still be able to contact the brand of the refilled product and claim the supplies you just bought had "expired" chips.

Sadly this "exired" signal can't be override :(

Sorry,
Ed

"Expired color cartridge" message blocks black printing - nothing works

Hello merelU. I'm afraid you may have to replace the empty color cartridge as there may be problems with the printer while an expired cartridge is installed on the printer (even though some of the cartridges are still under warranty) and also, HP cannot guarantee the quality or reliability of expired ink cartridges.

all the best.
thx

Black and white printing not working

sounds like its a expired ink issue. on alot of the hp photosmart printers the ink has a expirey date on the carts the best solution would be to contact hp and chances are they will send you free carts if your ink has been expired. when a black ink is almost out most of the time it trys to draw ink from the color carts mixing to make the appropriate color.

but you can also try the following.
See the instructions for
calibrating a print cartridge in
the Care and Maintenance
section of the HP Photosmart
Printer Help.

Alignment

Remove both the cartridges from the printer and check the expiry dates on both cartridges, if any of the cartridge is expired then change the cartridge and check the result. If the cartridges are not expired then check the ink levels present in the cartridges from the HP Solution Center. If the ink levels are good then clean the copper contacts of the cartridges with a soft cotton cloth and power cycle the printer.

  1. Turn the product off.
  2. Unplug the power cord from the product.
  3. Wait 30 seconds, and then reconnect the power cord to the product.
  4. Turn the product on.
Now insert the cartridges and align them, after alignment page prints then scan the page.

If it still gives alignment failed message then remove the cartridges and reset the printer and check for the result.
