I have a 721.62629200 Kenmore microwave that the exhaust fan will cut on periodically while using the range stove top.The only way to stop the fan is to pull the power plug.Steam seams to cause it to come on but the control buttons will not turn it off. Just the exhaust fan comes on.A friend suggested that the "thermistor" might be bad but I could not find such a part in the breakdown diagram at SEARS. Thanks for any help

Sounds like a bearing is tightening up when it get heated up with use. Then after a cool down period it works normally until using it heats it up again. Eric

SOURCE: I have a Kenmore Microwave hood combo model number

We see (and repair) this a lot. The problem is on the control panel, which we regularly repair nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in about a week or so.

At our Web site, you can get details of our service, plus we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

The lights can can be inoperable or stuck on or stuck in "night light" mode. Sometimes this will similarly affect the fan operation or inside light, too.

The vent will turn on randomly and not turn off!

Most over the range microwaves have a heat safety system built into them. If for instance you are cooking on the stove top for a long period of time on the burner directly under the micro control panel and the control panel get too hot, a thermostat in the microwave will automatically turn on the vent fan to help keep the control panel cooled off. My guess is that the safety thermostat (usually right behind the bottom of the control panel) may be going bad and needs replaced.

Kenmore elite microwave

Was it just the exhaust fan that came on? If so this is normal when cooking on the stove for long period of time without the fan running. The heat builds up under the microwave and eventually activates the fan.

Have Kenmore microvave and the vent starts on its own

Actually, that's a feature! If you cook much on the range (stove) beneath the microwave, the heat will cause the microwave bottom to heat up quite a bit (just touch it!), and the microwave will turn on it's exhaust fan in an attempt to save itself from burning up. It will shut off in about 15 minutes after you turn off the source of heat.
But if the fan comes on by itself even when the microwave is cool (or at least not hot), then you probably have a defective fan thermostat. This thermostat is located behind the control console on the inside bottom of the microwave.

My fan for the stove reduces power once the microwave is turned on

you must understand that any manufacturer has the proper design engineering from to save electricity, etc. And they using the new concept of reingeenering.
If the microwaves do not HEAT and working, do not worry.

It could be that the fan button is sticking or a contact has welded itself closed therefore its getting power all the time.

Samsung MU3250W Shut down

It could have been steam or humidity.

If this is an over the range model, be sure you always use the hood vent exhaust fan when you're cooking on the stove top.

Whether it's a counter top or over the range top, always be aware that the cooling fan is running when it's cooking.

When in doubt feel for air flow through the vents.

Good luck.

Problem with Frigidaire CPLMV168CC1 Over the range microwave

I would suggest a hard reset - unplugging it for a few minutes then trying again.

If you don't have the owner's manual, you can download it here:
ftp://ftp.electrolux-na.com/ProdInfo_PDF/Springfield/316137207en.pdf

If it doesn't have an option to turn sounds on and off, you may have a problem with the keypad or control board.

Moisture may have gotten into the controls from steam (from not using the exhaust fan while cooking on the stove top) or spray cleaner (from spraying the keypad directly instead of spraying it on a soft cloth).

Please reply back with more details if you need further help.

Kenmore microhood

"Microhood" seems to be a slang term for the "microwave hood" (hood fan or exhaust fan) which is normally part of an over-the-range microwave oven or range. But these should be available separately, as I seem to recall. I would contact home centers such as Lowe's, Home Depot (if they still exist), etc., or a local appliance store.
