Bosch shu9915uc dishwasher when turned on sounds like drain pump is running but water will not enter dishwasher. When opened the pump sound stops. I did have a plumber over right before this occurred to replace kitchen sink faucet but he said he did not shut off valve to dishwasher and valve IS open.

Hello,

Welcome to FixYa.

Based on your description "dishwasher when turned on sounds like drain pump is running but water will not enter dishwasher" , it sounds like the emergency overfill switch has been actuated. Here`s what to do and what to look for.

**Turn off the breaker/power at your homes service panel...safety first of course**

Remove the the bottom panel, referred to as a toe panel or kick-plate, essentially the lower service panel shown here...

When you remove the outer toe panel, there will be another small panel which is non finished steel, I find removing that allows much easier access as well.

This panel can be somewhat more difficult as it secures the plastic channeling for the wires but if you observe closely you`ll see it does "snap" out of place...carefully.

Once the panel has been removed check for any obvious signs of water in the base ( the unit has a plastic overfill basin with a float which will actuate an emergency overfill cycle, hence the drain pump runs & runs )

If you don`t see any water in this area, direct your attention to the left in this basin/bottom ( from the front to be sure ) and you should see a device which will resemble a "stir stick" you`d use for coffee etc. it will be a redbosch shu9915uc dishwasher when turned - 5c066c9.jpgtick.

With the aid of a wooden spoon, long screwdriver, or if you can manage to reach by hand, lift it up and down gently and listen for a "click".

If there is no sign of water and you can here the "click" when lifting up and down the float actuater ( red stick ) then turn the machine back on and give it a try before reassembling the toe panel so you can observe for any possible leaks.

Let me know what you find. This is the most likely cause of the symptom you are describing so we can move forward if this doesn`t resolve the issue.

Thanks for choosing FixYa. Good luck.

Regards,

Macmarkus :)

    Hi Macmarkus,
Thanks for this suggestion. We have tried the above option, but we are still not able to get the dishwasher to fill with water. Our repair person told us that we should just replace our relatively new machine. We stubbornly believe that a dishwasher should not be a disposable good, so we are trying to fix it ourselves :-) Any ideas?
    Thanks!

Does you unit exibit the same behaviour as the above description ? Drain pump running constantly unless door is opened, even when door is open ? Same model number ? I certainly wouldn't replace the Bosch dishwasher due to a potentially and relatively inexpensive repair.
I'll watch for your reply and try to help further in any way I can. Regards,
    Macmarkus :)

Thanks for getting back with us. The dishwasher sounds like it is running, but it doesn't spray water. Water collects in it even when it is not running (and even when the power is off), but no water sprays during the cycle. Model # SHU 43 C05UC/ 46. Thanks!

Hi my friend. I am having exactly that problem with my DW. Draining and cleaning the water there makes all good again but after some washes, it comes to the same situation. Do you have a clue why this is happening? What can I look for or do to solve this problem? Thanks in advance. Best regards and have a great 2022

"Runs" even with door open - water drains

Unplug the dishwasher from the plug site, wait one minute and plug it back in. The computer will reset itself. It should run perfectly.

Bosch SHU runs even when the door is open, what do i need?

Hi Jeffrey,

This depends what you mean by "runs". If the dishwasher continues with a wash cycle - i.e. circulating water - with the door open, the simple answer is that you have a defective door microswitch.

However, I suspect what you perceive to be the dishwasher running, is actually the drain pump running continuously. This happens when the anti-flood protection system has been activated and continues even when the door is opened. The simplest way to check is to open the door (while it's "running") and pour some water into the tub. If the water drains away immediately, this shows the drain pump is running and the anti-flood protection has been activated.

This may be due to water having leaked into the base of the dishwasher, but it could be as simple as a stuck or defective float-switch.

Please try the simple test above then post back for further assistance. If you're planning to investigate or repair this yourself, you're going to need a Torx T20 screwdriver and a multi-meter would be useful as well.

My dishwasher turns on and all the lights work. It sounds like it's filling up with water, but it never actually runs through any of the cycles. If I leave it running for a while it will continue to...

It's worth repairing.

Check water level switch inside the machine.
Check the inlet solenoid for proper operation. It might have got stuck and remain
in open condition always. You can reach this area by opening the back door of the machine. give a gentle tap with a wooden piece on the valve , it may return to the closed position.

Clean all the inlet and drain areas of the machine.

Bosch SGS5332GB dishwasher. drain pump runs all the time

There is a float under the machine that tells the pump to shut off. If the float is stuck or bad, the machine will keep draining. I am including a web site that might help. Bosch Dishwasher That Will Not Stop Draining Hunker

Water keeps backing into the dishwaser when its off

Your drain hose height could be to high up. Try lowering the level of the hose. Shorter distance the less amount of water is remaining in the hose after pump stops. If the problem continues, check the valve that open and closes the water supply and drain and make sure it is closing. Probably just drain eighth.

Bosch SHU9915UC Dishwasher - wash cycle won't happen

hi there your dishwasher has gone into flood protection mode ie. water has leaked into the base and activated the float switch.

to try and locate the leak tip your d/w back to drain the water from the base then remove both side panels and start a program to see if you can see where the water is leaking from, being careful not to touch anything while the d/w is running as live parts are exposed

hope this is of some help

Pump Runs On After Water Is All Drained Out?

If the cycle does not stop draining that is usually because of a faulty water level switch that controls the water level in your appliance.
The faulty sensor cause the machine to think that there is still water inside, even when water has drained completely.
Check if the floating sensor is stuck or faulty.
Some machine may use a membrane switch instead of a floater.
