I had the electricity go out in the litchen last nite, and usually, I just go to the basement and reset the breaker. It didn't work last nite. Also, now when I turn on the electric range, a light in the living room comes on. Is this a ground problem?

It's not a ground problem, but more likely a weak or open neutral connection somewhere. This can cause damage to other connected devices because of excessive voltage, and should be taken care of quickly. You should have a licensed electrician check and repair this, both because it may be difficult to locate exactly where the problem is, and because your insurance policy will probably require repairs be done by qualified personnel.

I have a GE Microwave oven model JVM1790SK01. The nite light wont turn off, I pulled the plug, reset all the features but the nite light is still on, how do I fix that?

MICROWAVE PROGRAMMABLE AUTO NITE LIGHT Some over-the-range microwaves had a programmable Auto Nite Light feature, which will turn the surface lights on low on at a specific time. The Auto Nite Light feature can be set to turn on and off at any time desired.
Follow the directions below for set-up:
  1. Press the AUTO NITE LIGHT pad.
  2. Enter the time the light is to turn on. Select A.M. or P.M.
  3. Press the AUTO NITE LIGHT pad again and enter the time the light is to turn off. Select A.M. or P.M.
  4. Press the AUTO NITE LIGHT pad once again.
  5. The word NITE will show in the control window as a reminder that the feature is set. The settings can be reviewed by pressing AUTO NITE LIGHT.
To erase the settings and turn off the automatic feature:
  • Press the AUTO NITE LIGHT pad, then press the ZERO pad.
  • The NITE indicator will no longer be lit.

My whirlpool oven will not open. I have held the start button for 5 second to toggle between the child lock and unlock modes but will not open either way. What now?

Try turning the circuit breaker (electric panel in basement or storage room) off, wait at least 10 seconds, then turn it back on. This may reset it.

New microwave stopped working after 15 seconds

Possibly the fuse / breaker is tripped, usually all outlets in one room share same breaker. Check breakers (or fuses) or try outlet in differnt room. If the outlet has power, (plugin a lamp to check) and the microwave still does not work, take it back to store for replacement or refund.

My maytag microwave blew the ciruit breaker a several times last night. I reset the circuit breaker each time. Then the last time, I reset the circuit breaker and the microwave did not get power back....

If there's no other appliance on that circuit, then please stop trying to use the microwave. You could be dealing with a dead short, and those sometimes leave people,,,DEAD!

I would be really cautious about trying to use it anymore without checking it first for a direct short.

You need to allow the circuit breaker more time to reset, flip to off and give it 2 minutes, then turn it back on. You should feel the distinctive click, as well as hear it if it's working properly.

Circuit breakers can go bad after repeated failures within a circuit.

The outlet could also be damaged now, but normally it's the circuit breaker getting too hot with repeated failures.

If there are a number of other items on the same circuit, then try the microwave in a plug that you know has no other items being used at the same time, preferably while wearing heavy duty leather insulating gloves to protect yourself from any possible shock. If the circuit breaker blows, you've got a possible electrical short within the microwave.
Good luck!

Our inverter microwave stopped completely and now has no power!

Amanda, If yours is newer construction (less than 40 years) the microwave is likely to have it's own circuit breaker in the electrical panel (in the garage or basement?) so no other lights or outlets might have gone out. I have never seen a microwave that had it's own user-replaceable fuse or circuit breaker.
