My tomtom XL freezes then restart me back at the start of selecting my preferences again. I had to reset my GPS and it then had me back to setting up my preferences again. I go through the setup screen of selecting the language, left or right handed, miles or Km, time, voice, and speech preferences. Although when I get to the 2nd page of the speech preferences that has "Read aloud warnings", "Read aloud tips", etc.... when I hit done it freezes for about a half minute then restarts me back at selecting my preferences again. It will not let me past this screen no matter what preferences I select. I have also tried resetting it many times but problem still persists. Please help! Thanks

I had the same problem, before realising that text-to-speech on the TomTom XL on'y works if you've selected a *computer-generated" voice - and not all of them are. "Samantha/English-US" is computer-generated, for example, but "Tim/English-UK" is not (it's a recorded voice). When choosing from options in the "Change voice" menu option, check the top-right hand corner to tell whether a voice is computer-generated or not. Hope this helps.

yep common error reset it or plug it in to pc and download other voice

Not all sound files speak out the street names. If you want, street names spoken, you need to select a voice that ends with computer. For example, the voice file selection: Simon, English UK, Computer will speak street names. But the voice file, Bonnie, English US, will not speak Street names. Dave, English US, computer will give you street names but Lori or Mandy, English US will not. Procedure to get the street names spoken: Tap on main screen. Tap on change preferences. Tap on arrow. Tap on change voices. Tap (select) a voice that ends with computer. Tap select. Tap done till you reach the main screen.

try resetting it. you can restore settings or better still get latest operating system by connecting up to internet. downloading the latest operating system and updated basic maps is free. another problem might be that the batteries are low and you may just need to connect to power source. the tomtom one is not the most powerful sat nav, it runs out of battery quickly and has very little memory (only ONE gig) but as long as you use it within its capabilities it is pretty reliable and does the basics very well.... imo

try this originally posted by gt3rs i just did it and it worked for me Here is a solution that worked in my case (constant reboots after voice select)
  1. Plug your tomtom into your PC.
  2. Run TomTom Home
  3. Select the option to run your TomTom through your PC (TT Home)
  4. You should be greated with the select language screen
  5. Then simply select language etc.
  6. When you get to the voice selection: select a voice (here TTHome should freeze) <- also strangely enough notice the cancel button doesn't on the screen (as it does when doing this on the device)
  7. Don't panic TT Home should start working again in a few seconds
  8. Disconnect your TomTom and that should have solved the problem, the normal map screen should show up upon starting up your TomTom

My tom tom one xl seems to have gone back to set up mode so i go through the options but when i get to the option for choosing a voice it freezes and then returns to the begining of set up again i have...

One of the voices you added from the computer is corrupt. Plug the tomtom back in to the computer and remove the customer voices one by one till you find the one that is corrupt. If you can't do this using the tomtom app, reply and I will find out where the files are and tell you which ones to delete from the momory.

We want to reset the clock from am to pm or start beginning questions all over again.

1. Turn on the TomTom unit. 2. Tap the screen to bring up the menu. 3. Tap the "Change Preferences" icon 4. Keep hitting the arrow to go to the next page. Clock setting is on page 6 of the preferences dialog. 5. If the Set Clock option is greyed out, you will need to perform a system reset and then perform these steps over again.
To reset the system, start with the power off. Then, hold down the power button for about 15 seconds, until you see the TomTom logo appear on the display. When the logo appears, release the power button. After this reset, you should be able to turn the unit back on and proceed with your setup from scratch.

To reset your TomTom device, do the following:
  1. Check that the battery is charged properly.
    Charge your device for at least 2 hours before trying to turn it on again. Make sure the charging light on your device is on.

  2. Remove the SD card
    If your device uses an SD card, remove it.

  3. Reset your device.
    Use a straightened paper clip, or something similar, to push the reset button for 15 seconds. See the pictures below for where to find the reset button.

  4. Turn your device on.
    Press the On/off button for at least 5 seconds.

  5. Insert the SD card
    If your device uses an SD card, insert the SD card.

Tom Tom stuck in a loop

i had the problem that when selecting the voice, the device would freeze up then restart sending me to the beginning of the preferences. what i did to fix this is connect the device to my laptop and start tomtom home. on the third page select operate my device. this let me finish selecting the preference options through the computer. after that my gps came up.
