Gerard,
Sometimes they are bolted onto the top, but many times they are welded in place and you cannot remove them. I would suggest putting some warm soapy water in the pan for a few minutes and then vacuum it out if you have a wet vac, other wise just put towels or rags or a sponge in there to soak up the water and just wipe it out as best that you can. Hope this helps!
Clean the drain situated at back (inside) of fridge cabinet (not the freezer). Use a piece of expanding wire about 1 meter long to get around the 90degree bend and into the water tray sitting on top of
compressor.
This pipe often gets blocked with food particles.
If problem persists it is usually the defrost cycle being too long and in this case the defrost cut-off sensor will need to be replaced .
When you say ices up do you mean the line ices up back to the compressor. is water overflowing over sump tray? or is it dumping out drain? If you are not getting water over the evaporator plate then it will frost up the evaporator plat all the way back to the compressor.if the water is dumping into the drain during freeze cycle check the dump valve this will not let sump tray stay full of water. make sure water filter is good as this will not let sump tray stay full fast enough. is water pump pumping water over the evap plate?
The drain tube that runs down the back of the fridge into the tray that sits on top of the compressor is blocked, you need to clear this, you can either use compressed air and blow back up into the fridge of find a soft but stiff wire to carefully slide up the tube.
Freezer drain is plugged.
Two solutions:
1. Call a service repair company.
2. Turn off both controls (turn to lowest setting) and open freezer door for minimum of 24 hours (max 48 hours). That will thaw drain sufficiently.
What has happened: Somehow the freezer drain had ice build-up and eventually froze solid. Every time the unit went into defrost mode, the melted frost (now water) had no place to go. The normal exit is the freezer drain hole which leads to the drip pan underneath. That exit is plugged with ice, so the water went where it could - across the freezer floor and out the bottom of the freezer door. You found it and wondered why.
There is a blockage from the freezer compartment(at the evaporator base) to the compressor outside. Once there is a defrost period, small amounts of defrosted ice collects in the catch tray under the evaporator, which then flows through a pipe in the frame to the compressor which boils the water away with its natural heat. To clear this problem, in the quickest way is to defrost the freezer for 12 hours then go to the back of the fridge and look on top of the compressor (on the roof). There should be a pipe sitting in a tray positioned on top of the compressor tray. Blow hard into the pipe and you will feel a little pressure untill obstruction is cleared. Once easy to blow into the pipe, problem is solved. Switch on.
normally the pipe that drains the water on top of the compressor is a bucket that catch the water the pipe blocks sometime then needs to be opened again with a piece of wire
normally sits in the refridgerator compartement under neath the cooling plate
Condensation tray has been clogged up this tray sits on top of the compressor to evaporate the condesation from the unit. this tray sits on the compressor to use the heat of the compressor to evaporate the water produced during its cycles
the smell is raly bad because it doesnt drain all the water out , so it sits there. if all else with the machine works well, this means the water level sensor needs replacing
remove drawer and drain tray, there may be some coffee grounds on the back of the machine where the drain tray sits, preventing the dregs drawer from sitting properly.
