for a Columbia CL5074, the contrast screen is not good, the battery is new. Could you please inform me how to adjust the contrast because is very dificult to see the numbers and letters because are mixed.

Dont do it yourself.. it might break if u apply too much pressure. GO to your nearest watch center and ask them to replace the battery for you.. Its better to spend a little money than to buy a new watch!
Press and hold "set" until the "Chime" screen comes up. Let off "set" and then press "mode" - This will take you to the clock. adjust the numbers by using "st/sp" and "reset". Use the mode button to cycle through the hour, min, sec and date.

Open watch caseback. Undo the contact covering the battery. Read the writings on battery and buy exactly the same one. Get the old battery out and replace with the new one exactly the same way as it was. Redo the contact. Put caseback back on. Reset the watch.
Yes you can adjust digital quartz watches,there be a trimmer inside to adjust the fast and slow.,but that is last option to do if nothing happens.I think when changing the battery you did not clean the battery terminals,so that film residue will gone out.Film residue comes from the liquid comes out from the old battery.this is the most common problem of the battery.After all you clean,next is short ,the terminals.If you forgot this step this is very problem at all,the not working so you better watch out.
