Same problem here with a 42LG70. Screen shows the usual boot info, Bios loading, memory testing, and Windows XP load screen, but just when it gets to the point where it should show the desktop, the screen goes black and after a few seconds, the "invalid format" message comes up on the screen.Same problem here with a 42LG70. Windows XP works OK, but Linux does not. I am running 1280x768@60Hz on both setups.

It maybe that the resolution and /or the frequency (Hz) on you pc is not supported by the tv. Supported resolutions.
Supported computer resolutions 640 x 350, 720 x 400, 1360 x 768, 1920 x 1080, 640 x 480 (VGA), 1024 x 768 (XGA), 800 x 600 (SVGA), 1280 x 768 (WXGA), 1280 x 1024 (SXGA), 1600 x 1200 (UXGA)
Or you should use the HDMI connector which is reported to work well..
I have a LG plasma and I am trying to connect my PC via VGA and I am getting the "Invalid Format" - can you please tell me what is the problem? Thank you
Try rechecking all wire connections for proper placement and fit too and from the tv. Try adjusting the video format on the DVD, flip through 480p and 1080i. See which format works best with your tv. Do the same with Wii.
ok, have you tried hooking up your PS3 to a different tv and it work? if so, you may have to change the settings in the PS3 to fit the LG tv. or, it may be in the menu options of the tv for a specific channel or setting. reading directions for hookup is a big help too:P
Go into your control panel.
Select display.
There will be a picture showing 2 screens.
Select the 2nd screen, and lower resolution to it's minimum.
Apply and test.
Slowly increase till you find what your happiest with.
Worked for me using a ASUS laptop and LG60'plasma.
