While taking pics, a message box came up saying that my card needs to be formated. I am not sure what prompted this. I am afraid I will delete the pictures on it.

First of all, do you know you're supposed to download the pics from your full card to your computer and then format the card in the camera? Keeping them on the card is risky since the cards are not made for long term storage. The pics can degrade over time. Formatting completely erases a card and that's what happened with your new card. All new cards should be formatted in the camera before using....that's what your camera was trying to tell you.

Wont take a pic says memory card full when viewing memory card it says no images

The camera can only see images if they are in the folder, the camera placed them in when they were taken. Try formatting the card in the camera.
Menu/OK, Setup, Format, OK.
All files will be deleted in the process, so make sure you have saved all images first.

Take no more pics until you've recovered the photos, take the card out of the camera. Here's some freeware photo recovery software that should be what you're looking for.

You will need to use a flash card reader with this software. If you don't have one, get one, they're inexpensive.

The reason this occurred is that you likely never formatted the card. The card will work fine in the beginning but the file structure will eventually corrupt. AFTER you've recovered the photos, format the card in your camera to prevent this from happening again. Keep in mind formatting will also totally erase your card, so again only do this after you've recovered the photos.

When I go to take a pic, it won't let me because it says "write protect"

Sounds like you will need to format the memory card. This will permanently erase all the data from the card and then you will be able to use it again. To format the card: Press the Menu button - right arrow to Setup- right arrow to format option. You will see format yes or no. Choose Yes and press ok. This will clear the write protect message and the card can be used again.

Format Memory Card

No problem. Your formatted pics are still there until you take more pics and overwrite them. Just remember not to take any more pics on that card just yet.
It's no problem at all to get them back. As an example, try the below linked freeware program. It's tiny to download (a little over 1meg), and very easy to use. You'll have your pics back in ten minutes after reading this:

Card not initialised

You can recover the missing pics off your card get, there are some image recovery programs available on the net and most camera shops will offer a card recovery service but dont format before you get pics recovered.

Not formatting a card is bad. They need to be formatted on a regular basis because deleting images from card does not remove them and the next image taken only overwrites the old ones.
