You need to change the coolant in the CRTs. Thats a common problem with the blue and green CRT in phillips magnavox rear projectionsIt makes the color and clarity as good as new after the coolant has been changed. If you need more info let me know, as there is a kit that has the coolant for all 3 tubes and CD with the step by step instructions with pictures available.

I need to know how to adjust for the for clairty of the wording ( to blury to read it)

On the front side of your tv under the screen you have a box with little dials on it. This is your focus and brightness control. There should be six dials. 2 for each tube. Turn the one that says focus for each color slowly one direction or the other until the picture looks clearer.

Philips Magnovox FP5240 W101 color is washed out and NO brightness. has to be near dark to see picture

ll projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Here are more details and solutions for both.

Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some pics of convergence problems.

Common Problem #2) CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Magnavox rear proj (model# 8p6044 c102) pic is cloudy/green tint

Yes the coolant gets crud buildup in it over time which will cause the color and clarity to get very poor with obects that will glow around certain bright ojects. You can get the Phillips CRT coolant replacement kit from www.tvrepairworld.com which has the CRT coolant for all 3 CRTs and also includes the Cd with instructions on how to do the replacement.

Whites are real bright and has an orange color

Hi my name is Eric,
I can help you with your issue ,
This philips TV could have a number off issues, fluid leaking from a CRT,
or the SSB or SSM boards are bad.
I tech will charge you over $350 to replace a board.
There are color adjusters in the back inside the TV , red blue green screen controls, it wouldn't solve your issue , but lowering on may make it watchable for now

If I have helped you with your issue please click accept.
If you have more questions you can still respond
I will reply asap

The pitcher is blury and need to be ajusted , how do i do that

Your TV most likely has one of two possible problems.

Problem #1: Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

Problem #2 CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from www.TvRepairKits.com that includes replacement coolant, photos. instructions, etc.

No picture or sound

Put the old chip back in...does the shrinking/expanding problem return? If so the new chip may be faulty.

If the problem stays the same - no audio/video  - check your soldering, cables, etc.

Aadjusting screen colors

They should be adjusted to set voltages. however it is best to shut the color level to the lowest setting then try t balance the screens to achieve the best black and white picture. then turn up your color level. Your brightness level should also be set to 50 % then when you adjust for the best B&W picture. You will have better color and brightness when you reset your color and brightness levels. Hope this helps.
