You should not use other peoples computers to charge anything that has a processor or memory like the reader does.improper ejection from a pc/laptop can damage the software or hardware on the device, unlocking the device on the pc opens up a portal so the pc uses the device. this can damage the device if its not ejected properly. i.e ejecting the device though the pc. this stops the pc using the device safely so you can unplug it. you probably have corrupted a file on the reader. Im not to sure if sony still do the repair software for a pc to fix the device they used to on windows 7, if they still do it might be worth downloading the software and seeing if it can fix the device. all the best in your problem.

SOURCE: how do I download music to my sony reader prs 650
Personally, I find the Digital Library interface for Sony is slow, cumbersome and irritating.
I found the quickest and easiest way to get files on to the e-reader is to load any files you want to use on to a SD flash memory card on your PC. Then, make sure your e-reader is totally switched off, not just in "Sleep" mode. To do this slide the "Off" switch over and hold it for 2-3 seconds and confirm "Yes" when asked. Then insert the SD card in the e-reader. When you power up the reader again you will find the files show up in menu system of the reader.

The Sony
Reader used a special type of display; the LCD can retain an image without
having power. It takes power while changing the pages. In most of the cases, if
the power is fully discharged, the LCD will keep the last image that was
displayed it makes an impression that the Reader is frozen. However, the Actual
thing is, the screen retains the last image on the screen and there is no power
to change the pages. These type of situations can be resolved by charging the
Reader sufficiently.
Each step in
my solution is a possible resolution. Hence I suggest that you perform each
step and check the operation.
Charge the
battery fully by connecting to a computer or by using a compatible AC Adaptor.
It may take a few minutes (up to 15 minutes) to display the charging symbol if
the Reader is fully drained in its last use.
Once the
reader is charged fully (at least 45 minutes), slide the power button to turn
ON.
Perform a soft
reset. We can perform a soft reset by pressing the reset button on the Reader.
After the RESET button has been pressed, slide the POWER switch to activate the Reader
device again. If the Indicator light next
to the power button on the Reader device is yellow, the unit is attempting to start up. If
this is the case, allow it a few moments to complete startup.
If the Reader
is still not charging up properly, connect the Reader to computer or AC Adaptor
and then press the reset button.
Disconnect the
Reader device from the computer (if applicable) and then slide the POWER switch to activate the Reader
device. Check if the Indicator
light next to the power
switch on the Reader device is yellow (indicating it is turning on) and
if the unit is responding
If the unit is
still frozen, connect it again to the computer or AC adapter and while connected,
check if the Indicator light next to the power switch on the
Reader device is red . If this light is red , allow the Reader device to
charge for one hour so
there is sufficient charge for troubleshooting.
If the issue
persists, perform a hard reset to resolve the issue. Please follow the steps to
perform a hard reset:
Under certain
circumstances, moisture condensation can occur. Moisture condensation can be
caused by moving the Reader device between temperature extremes or if the
Reader device has come in direct contact with moisture. If you suspect moisture
as the cause, allow the Reader device to sit for a few hours before attempting
to turn it back on
