I have a Belkin G Mimo router and I'm trying to connect an Xbox wireless network adapter which keeps getting stuck at the first stage of checking the network. I used to have an Ethernet connection which worked but is now not working. Any ideas/help would be appreciated.

There must be security on the wireless network and you might be typing the wrong password of the wireless network . Or your computer is not getting IP address from the router. First Check the wireless network key or the passphrse. Click Here for more info about networking
Check for the wireless encryption settings associated with this. If you're trying to join a network with "Open" settings to a encrypted network it won't work very well.
when enabling wireless security the router and adapter must be both be configured and configured in a fashion that both support. If you need help provide confirmation of your wireless router's manufacturer and model and the same information for any wireless adapters or computers with built-in wireless adapters to be wirelessly connected.

It sounds like the router address is wrong or you are not connected to the network.. Guessing you are using Windows XP or Vista. Go to the DOS prompt (http://www.computerhope.com/issues/chdos.htm) then type ipconfig. This will bring up details on your network (see example below).
You should see default gateway address which is the address of your router ie 192.168.2.1 in your example. If this is not shown you have not connected to your router properly. If it shows a different address use the address shown to try and access your router. HTH
