My furnace doesn't work; my thermostat is flashing a house symbol with the number "2" inside, and a stick figure with a right arrow. What does this mean?

My reddy heater pro 100 wont stay lit when i let go of the trigger ive replaced the propane tank

Hello my name is Heath it will be my pleasure to assist you. First thing to do is go to the furnace and look in the small peep hole in the lower blower door and see if there is an led light that is flashing a certain number of blinks record the number and look for a diagnostic chart on the inside of the blower door or the upper side panel of the furnace if there is no flash code present you can try resetting the power to the furnace and see if the furnace will fire up.

On the thermostat the "filter"

Thermostats used in homes sometimes have a timer built in which will remind you to change your furnace filter. Most of them can be adjusted or disabled. The thermostat has no way of knowing whether the filter is actually dirty, it just reminds you every so often by flashing "filter" on the display.

It is possible to reset the timer, or adjust how often it appears, or disable it completely. Exactly how to do that depends on the make and model of your thermostat. Often, it is simply a case of holding two buttons at the same time for a few seconds.

As to why the furnace doesn't come on, there can be many reasons. The problem likely is not the "filter" flashing on the display of your thermostat. Try resetting the breakers that service the furnace unit itself. Make sure that the thermostat is set to "heat" and the setting is turned up. If the thermostat uses batteries (most do these days), replace them.

If this doesn't work, the following information will be helpful to get the furnace running again:
Brand
Model number
Age of furnace
Location in home
Brand and model of thermostat

Rheem furnace problem wont stay lit

You need to see what it does. Does it light at all? will the pilot stay on? If lights but wont let you release the knob then thermocouple is bad. I
If it is electric start then watch the series of events. enducer fan motor starts, element heats up, gas lights but shuts off after 1 second. 5 seconds 1 minute and so on. Also your computer board on the furnace will flash a code indicating a problem. count the flashes and read the panel on the furnace for help it should give a description of the the errors.
all depends on the age and type of unit. respond if you have more questions .

We have a White-Rodgers 90 series thermostat that started beeping last night. We have had it for about 4 years. Does it have a battery? I couldn't find anything about that in the manual.

Susan, the "90" series of thermostats covers a couple of different thermostats made by White-Rodgers. Here's how to find your model number. With that info, I can check the manual specific to your thermostat.

In the mean time, check the display for the word BATTERY or BAT. (Flashing) on the display. Battery flashing or blinking on the digital display indicates low batteries. If the batteries have recently been changed and the thermostat continues to indicate low batteries, use a pencil eraser to polish each of the battery contacts inside the back of the thermostat. Do not bend them up and down when polishing or you might break them. When complete, they should all be as shiny as a mirror. This will assure proper battery back-up, allow the backlight to work correctly and remove the flashing battery symbol from the screen. Battery (Solid) on Display The battery symbol (not blinking) indicates a loss of power (24 volts) from the heating and cooling equipment to the thermostat. Normally the heating and cooling do not operate when the battery indicator is on. If the battery indicator is on, check the fuses or breakers, make sure the furnace is switched on, and verify the blower compartment door is closed properly. The battery display is designed to indicate the thermostat is running on batteries, so replacing batteries has no effect on the indicator. See No Heat/No Cool for more information. Note: Some heat only systems (zoned systems) disconnect power from the thermostat during a normal heating cycle and display the battery symbol. Millivolt heating systems always indicate battery because they do not supply 24 volts to the thermostat.

A beep often is provided as audible feedback when keys are depressed on many thermostats. You should check to make sure that no key is stuck in the "in" position or is otherwise activated.
