It sounds like one of the door switches has become defective, each must be disconnected on the one side and tested with a digital meter using the ohms scale.
There is no temper selection per-ce. The microwave is either 'on' or 'off' as it heats. Temperature is related to time selected.
Do you frequently open the door to check the contents while the oven is running? Most people do. When you do this, you invoke the door safety interlock system. This system protects you from dangerous microwave radiation. With the door closed, there is no danger.
What's happening? When you open the door with the oven operating, you open the tiny contacts on the little micro switches that make up the safty interlock. As such, you send a spark through them, burning them a little bit. A little bit added to a little bit added to a little bit adds up to quite a bit and eventually, they fail. When they fail, they are not able to signal to the oven that the door is in fact closed. If the door is not closed (forget what you know about the door) the magnatron will not energize thus no heat. This is, in my experience, the #1 reason for a microwave to fail.
Remove your cover, find the switches and verify their proper operation with a volt/ohm meter. If you call a serviceman to do this for you, expect to pay $100.00 and up. Of course, if you dont know what a micro switch is, don't have a VOM or how to test, this will be money well spent.
Be aware, there is a device inside the cabinet that if you touch the terminals, it can seriously injure or kill. It is the small can, usually silver, that has two terms on the top. It 'stores' electricity in the thousands of volts. DONT TOUCH IT.
I hope this answers your question. Thanks for your question @ FixYa.com
The film stops food particles and steam from entering the part of the door that is difficult to keep clean. That is all it does. No danger just difficult to clean.

Hi,
Here is a tip that will help you to figure out what is wrong with your
Microwave Oven....
I have the same problem. Everything seems to work except it doesn't heat up food.
I remember last time when it was working. I pressed the start botton before I closed the door. So it didn't start automatically, and I pushed start and it worked(it still heat up the food), but it doesn't work now. Help Please!!!
I have a Whirlpool Gold GH5184XPQ.
Generally, the most common causes of a failure to heat are:
- bad door switches or door switch mounts - loose connection at the magnetron - problem or loose connection on the control unit circuit board - bad magnetron or other high voltage part
If you or a friend decide to look into it, we have critical safety information, info on door switch diagnosis and replacement, and disassembly information at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk
if electronic control, one of two things come to mind. 1)your toutch pad is defective.replace it. 2)you electronic board has a leaky component.not very likly though. believe it or not, ive seen it start before by itself then i noticed a large quantity of bugs inside the glass which i realised triggered the microwave 0ff.
Normally that aarcing is due to food particles or grease trapped in the waveguide. It will arc over and over until it is removed.
The other, worse possibility is that the stirrer or magnetron has failed.
If it'sd still under warranty, I would call the nearest Sears store for service.
If you or a friend decide to work on it, we have *critical* safety & disassembly

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number (without the suffix) here: http://www3.sears.com (the 3 is correct)
Since you tested the door switches (my number one suspect) I would think you have a bad relay or a bad connection on the control panel circuit board.
We repair these nationwide for $32.50, which is usually economical for most models.
Just to make sure you have checked the door switches thoroughly, you can find my helpful text file called "doorsw.txt" via a Google search. It has important safety information and tips.
