If you are getting your microwave to turn on then you are just fine on your outlets. They should be putting out 120v. You just have an under powered Microwave.
Its likely that there is a fault in the element so by the time you pay for a new element and the cost of replacement it would probably over half the cost of a new kettle.
Yes, if your worried, use a fine emory paper to clean off the tarnish from the heat scorch. You may have shortened the life a little on the element but it is fine as long as it is not spalling, of flaking.
As you know friend, some water when it is boiled it really taste bad so I suggest use a water purifier to filter other out dirt, dust, other particles in a water street supply. Sure when you drink the water (not boiled) it doesn't taste bad, that's normal because we can't distinguish it easily. Also try to clean your kettle using baking soda it will eliminate tainted taste. I hope my advice help you with your problem.
Check the kettle at another socket to ensure the socket isn't the problem. Replace the fuse in the plug. If the power flex is removable from the kettle, check the terminals in the connector havn't become burned. The chances are that the element may have burned out in the kettle and in this case it probably isn't worth repairing.
That sounds like either a faulty thermal trip, or a faulty overheating fryer. Is it clean around the element because if not the heat will build up, much like the fur on a kettle and cause the element to overheat. Hope this helps.
The coils of Russel Hobbs outrun the shell jar for sure as the corrosion in the kettle would have caused the leak.
The best can be to get the kettle welded with metal, use gas welding to mend up the leak and use a good grinding tool to polish off the suface.
Wash and clean/scrub well to remove all flux /dirt before you use it.
Boil water three times to discard before you use it.
You can continue to use the Hobbs.
