Setting up Panasonic SC-HT930 to Cable Box & TV

I am trying to hook up this system to both my cable box and tv.

I can successfully hook up my Explorer 8300 cable box to my tv, but cannot figure out which connections to use to integrate everything together.

It had been set up successfully with a vcr in the middle, but not with just the three components (cable-930-TV).

The tv doesn't have component video, but does have S-video jack.

Please let me know if there are any diagrams or instructions I can use to get this done.

    The "system" is a Panasonic SC-HT930, and the TV is an RCA f35xxx series.

    The problem is that there do not seem to be any "correct" video/audio jack combinations that work.

    I have scematics on my Explorer guide, but the Panasonic is not configured the way it says to hook up a home theater.

    Is there any way somebody can send diagrams?

    This is a duplicate solution to that which I already said did not work.

    Please note that the Explorer set up guide has diagrams for setting up just the cable box to the TV and setting up the cable box to the home theater (SC-HT930 in this case), to the TV.

    The Cable-to-TV set up shows a diagram with the Cable Box's AUDIO OUT and VIDEO connecting to the TV's AUDIO IN and VIDEO. That configuration works.

    The Cable-to-HT-to-TV set up shows a diagram with the Cable Box's AUDIO OUT and VIDEO connecting to the HT's AUDIO OUT and VIDEO OUT. Then it shows the HT's "second" AUDIO OUT and VIDEO OUT connecting to the TV's AUDIO IN and VIDEO.

    The problem lies in the fact that the SC-HT930 only has one VIDEO, plus an S-VIDEO. And it has the following AUDIO: AUX; VCR AUDIO IN; TV AUDIO IN; REC OUT. I have tried every combination of all the sets of AUDIO and VIDEO, but I cannot get this configuration to work.

    What I need is somebody to be able to look at schematics of the backs of these components (particularly the Explorer 8300 and Panasonic SC-HT930) and tell me which combination should work.

    Please use "anal retentive: detail, because solutions that are only a single phrase are useless - again, I HAVE TRIED using the S-VIDEO, because I know that it has to play in the ultimate solution.

    If this has to go through several layers before it gets to a "guru" then at least read the problem and following comments and provide something new.

    I just received five (5) duplicate emails with the same solution from the same guy.

    Sir, the link to the Panasonic Support website is where I originally went - where I found a link to your website.

    The Panasonic site also has a Service Finder, so I can take my components to a certified Panasonic tech.

    I was hoping to save the money on having to go there, but so far none of the proposed solutions have come close to resolving my dilemma.

    If I do not receive a viable solution from this site by COB Wednesday, I wish to cancel this service and go a different path.

    leetheduece finally provided me with the missing link - that is to connect both the Cable Box and the Home Theater to the TX's VIDEO feeds.

    At least Lee took the time to really offer several possible fixes - all other so-called-solutions amounted to thoughtless blobs that were of no help at all.

    Thanks to the web site, and particularly to Lee, as you did finally come up with a viable solution.

    But at the end of the day you have done what you said you would do, and that is very well appreciated.

Good Day,
All you need to do is run an S-video cable from the panasonic to S-video IN on the TV. As the audio from the dvd will come from the home theater there is no need to run any audio cables IN to the tv, but as an FYI s-video hence it name only carries a video signal audio has to be run separate. Once connected set your TV's input to S-video with the remote and you should be all set for viewing DVD's. However if you want to be able to listen to your TV's audio thru the home theater you will need to connect a set of red and white audio cords from the TV's OUTPUT to the INPUT of the home theater. Then set the hometheater to AUX1 input to get TV audio thru the home theater. Please post the make and model of your TV set, so I can see what input's and outputs it has to assit further.

Well u need a s video cable thats for video from the back of ur cable box or tv it can only be hooked up 2 one and the audio outs are seprate

    you will most likely want to go s-video out of your cable box right into your tv. and then hook up the audio from the cable box up to your system with the audio cables your using. Then just keep the tv on that input channel for the cable. and select the appropriate input on your audio system to listen to it.

    Ok from the way you described the step by step you said the out from you cable box goes to the out on the HT, that is wrong. You want the out from the cable box to go to the IN on the home theater system.
    Keep me posted. I know we can get the connections right if thats the only problem.

    You will want to plug the cable box into whatever IN(Input) that you want. Then you will turn on the HT to that specified input so if you put it in TV, then you choose TV and that will play that selected input.

    I have the same box and have hooked it up to my stereo system many times I am sure we can get this. You have the S-video out on your cable box that goes to the whatever S-Video IN that you want to use. If you need any further detail let me know.

    You will then go from the S-Video OUT on your HT, to the S-video IN on your tv, then you can just plug all of your components into the HT. Then select them and it all plays on the same S-Video Input channel on your television.

Here are a few ways to go about this.
connect the cable box hdmi (if Capable) to the panasonic hdmi input. Then connect panasonic hdmi out to tv hdmi in. The easy thing about this setup is that you only need the two hdmi cables because they carry both audio and video.

If your cable box or tv are not hdmi compatible, Then connect video output from cable box directly to your tv, and send an audio feed from your cable box to the panasonic.

Blu ray connect to my sc-pt660
as far as hooking up your blu ray player to the sc-pt660, the only real way to utilize the surround sound (with true surround sound) is through the optical audio out. You need to connect your blu ray player through hdmi to your tv and then connect your blu ray player to your surround sound using the optical audio out/in. I, personally have the sc-pt660 hooked up through component cables so I don't waste an HDMI input on my TV. Except for cd's, there is no reason for you to use the actual dvd player part of the surround sound considering you have a blu ray player. In conclusion, hooking your blu ray player and the sc-pt660 up to get better video simply isnt possible (your blu ray player alone gives the best possible resolution, 1080p). As far as audio goes, run an optical audio cable from your blu ray player to your sc-pt660 to get true surround sound.

I just bought the sc-pt660.Is there any way for me to hook my regular tv(not a flat screen or hdtv)or my time warner cable box to this to get sound from movies on tv.I dont see any audio in ports.thanks
You can use the PANASONIC AUX IN ports for your TV or CABLE BOX audio, unless you run the DIGITAL CABLE into the PANASONIC, this may be available on the CABLE BOX or your TV, my suggestion is if you use the Cable box to view TV then use the CABLE BOX AUDIO OUTPUTS, you would be better with the CABLE BOX digital output INTO YOUR panasonic, but if it is already being used take the AUDIO out analog connection from your cable box into your Panasonic AUX INPUTS, then set the Panasonic to AUX IN mode.

greetings, you should be able to use rca cables for simple connectivity. hook the x box up to the tv as you would normally on the back or side of the tv there should be audio inputs and audio outputs. xbox signal goes to input and rca cables from output on tv to aux or tv input on your reciever. then make sure that whatever audio input jacks you connected your tv to your reciever with are the same as the function or mode input on the front of the reciever. if you need more assistance look your reciever up on the manufacture's website and diagrams should be available in the search portion of the website

Need help hooking up TV, BluRay, Home Theatre & cable box
I found that since the Panasonic TH50PZ80U TV has only 2 HDMI ports on the back of the TV, the best solution for me was to use component (red, blue, green) cables to connect the Home Theatre to the TV. I suppose I/you could connect the home theatre to the HDMI port on the front panel, but I don't want cables hanging out the front of the TV (personal preference). Unfortunately, I am no longer able to use the VIERA Link functionality available by connecting all Panasonic components to each other using HDMI cables, but I feel it's a small price to pay for the incredible picture quality acheived by using the HDMI cable to connect the HD Cable Box to the TV. I may yet be able to control everything using the HD Cable Box remote, but I haven't gotten that far yet but I've got Comcast coming on Saturday and hopefully they can let me know if this is possible: let me know if you have a solution.

So here are the components and the cable types used to connect:
  1. HD Cable Box to TV: HDMI cable & Optical Audio cable
  2. Home Theatre to TV: Red, Blue & Green component cables
  3. BluRay Player to TV: HDMI cable

Sc-pt660 + 46pz85u = NO SOUND!
Don't worry about sending the TV audio to the Panasonic. Just send a digital audio signal from the cable box to the Panasonic.

DVD - Panasonic connected via HDMI
TV - Panasonic connected via HDI
cable connected to cable box and TV. But you will not really be using the cable connection to the TV (TV Tuner) since you will want HD feed from cable box through HDMI input on TV.

You aren't concerned about feeding the TV speakers because your audio will always come from the home theatre.

Note that some components don't feed audio through HDMI, in which case you will need to use optical digital audio.

No sound through Panasonic SA-HT930 surround system
I've had similar problems in the past. With audio problems trace the problem from the source to the amp.

1. What output is the cable box using for audio, digital or analog?
2. Is there a setting in the cable box to switch between digital and analog?
3. Once you have determined the output of the cable box check to make sure that it's going into the right output on the panasonic
4. This is where the problem usually is...what is the receiver expecting for sound, analog or digital?
5. Switching between the sources...the sound should be on one of them.
