Very easy to fix for your camera. A stuck shutter is another common failure mode for digital cameras. The symptoms of a stuck or "sticky" shutter are very similar to CCD image sensor failure. The camera may take black pictures (for shutter stuck closed), or the pictures may be very bright and overexposed, sometimes with lines, especially when taken outdoors (for shutter stuck open). To confirm a stuck shutter, put the camera in any mode other than "Auto", and turn the flash OFF (you don't want to blind yourself for the next step). Next look down the lens and take a picture. You should see a tiny flicker in the center of the lens as the shutter opens and closes. If no movement is seen, then you likely have a stuck shutter. If so, please see this link for further info and a simple fix that may help.
Recommend Fix 5A by flicking as described in the link with your fingertip.

The screen no longer shows pictures. The screen is still working as an image flashes onto it while it's starting up. I can still take pictures.

But when you take a picture, is the image also black? If so, this sounds like it might be a defective CCD imager. Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check this link for more info.

Pictures won't show on screen

I have checked to see if I can simulate your problem on my D70.
There are no settings on the Set-up menu to turn off the display.
The display should show for a minimum of 6 seconds after a phot is taken.
You can reduce the screen brightness but that will not turn it completely black.
I presume you have eliminated all other possibilities by changing batteries, card, lens etc..
If so, it would suggest an LCD screen failure which would necessitate a repair by a Nikon agent.

KODAK eASYSHARE c530 BLACK SCREEN DOES NOT TAKE PICTURE

You may still be able to take pictures with your black screened Kodak camera. This problem occurs in the line of Kodak EasyShare digital camera models.

When you turn on your Kodak EasyShare digital camera, turn off the LiveView function. Take a picture using the small-windowed viewfinder (this is not the LCD screen). Also, try zooming in and out.

After taking a picture, review the picture to see if the picture has been taken. Then turn on LiveView and occasionally the LCD screen should no longer be showing a black screen.

Canon powershot SD 100 - I can't see anything but a black screen

This problem is caused by a stuck shutter assembly. Normally the shutter is open which allows light to enter the image sensor and show you the live preview you see on the screen. When you take a picture the shutter closes which allows the image sensor to record what was seen at the exact moment the shutter closed. The shutter is stuck closed, causing the image sensor to always be in the dark. These shutter assemblies are extremely small and delicate. The miniature parts can become jammed with just the slightest bit of oil or contaminant, or the slightest misalignment of components. The problem can sometimes be fixed by gentle tapping of the camera on a solid surface. If you are going to try this be VERY careful, and do not tap the camera on the buttons, lens, or battery door. If this does not solve your problem then the camera is going to have to be taken apart and the shutter cleaned and reset to allow free movement. This repair costs $125 to $145.

Stopped taking pictures . . .

When previous pictures display fine but does not take new one directs the problem to camera mode problem. Some component is at fault in the main board which controls menu functions and display is damaged. For the solution, the main board is repaired or replaced by technician. The repair cost may run between $100 to $200 in US.
