The harddrive burner is incompartible with DVD DL+R disks. First, attempt to burn the same program into CD R W OR DVD R W after refering to the disk burner compartibility. Also, attempt to ascertain the compartibity of the program. A huge program file usually may begin burning with compartible computers only incappable completing compressing an entire compilation into readable Disk.
What OS and disc brand and type are you using? Try a different brand; some disc manufacturers seem to make more "coasters" than others. If you are not using RW(rewritable) discs, make sure to cancel the autoplay "Format disc" option for blank discs in most Windows OS versions. I chose to turn off autoplay.
I hope this helps.
Cindy Wells (Yes I made a few coasters. So far I've found that Verbatim DVD +R DL discs are good. CDs are fine with most brands. However, other reviewers say that the plant where the optical discs were made matters.)
Pioneer has released Firmware for the DVR-107D DVD Writer and DVR-A07XLA & XLB DVD Writer. This release # is 1.18. http://www.pioneeraus.com.au/computer/firmware.html (a ZIP file download, but uncompresses to an .EXE, as does theflashman.rpc1.org site download. I can't uncompress the EXEs with Stuffit (standard) Expander v7.0x here, but Scott said he used version 8.0.2 ) Looks like we are getting closer to Dual Layer Support: (although some have flashed NEC ND-2500A drives to DL 2510 model firmware, I doubt that Pioneer will release an official firmware update for the 107D to add dual-layer burning. Like other mfrs, I suspect they'll sell a new drive model with DL burning support.)
You don't need to format the disc, as it does this during the burn process. What you may find is that your NEC dvd player does not play DVD+R. If you can, re-burn the video on a DVD-R 8.5GB.
You can also compress the video to fit on 4.7GB dvd. Download a program called DVD Shrink 3.2. Put the disc you burnt in the drive, and run DVD Shrink. This will analize the film, and all you need to do is click on Re-Author and lower the compression. It even has a line to show how big the video will be on the disc. On a 4.7GB dvd, you don't want this any higher than 4,430MB.
Only
dvd burners with Double Layer DL DVD R Media compatibility are able to
burn the Double Layer Media. If your dvd burner does not have the
capabilities, it is possible to be upgraded to burn Double Layer media,
check your burner manufacturer for details. Other ways to say it is
DVD+R DL media, Double Layer DL Media, Dual Layer Media, and DL DVD R
Media.
